Alaia project - Obeche / Paulownia blanks in So Cal?

Im located in Southern California and i'm really looking foward to make an alaia.

Does anybody know where I can get good Obeche or Paulownia wood blanks about 1' thick 6' tall and 18" wide, for under $100? If not, what are some good substitutes for less money?

try contacting Jon Wegener through his website. he’s in san diego.

also consider alternative materials…cedar is a good choice.

if you scan craigslist occassionally you’ll find people giving away old redwood fence or garage door stock that also works great.

the incremental cost for paulownia over other locally available materials is not worth it unless you can get it for a steal.
