alaia surfing

for more good alaia surf shots, check jmshots.com then go to galleries, then to dm on alaia segment. enjoy!

Nearly every shot he has almost every available inch of rail in the water. Pretty “close tolerance” surfing! Beautiful…

Muchas Gracias!

Rogelio

looks fun do you know how big the board is ?

it’s around 7 feet long about a 1/4" thick and around 16-17" wide…not fun to paddle around on, but when it gets hooked up, it flies!

i’m guessing 7 maybe 7 1/2 feet. they’re killer shots. DM is ripping.

Shoulda known.

I think I’ll make a Dan Malloy t-shirt.

Couple reasons I know of are (you mean narrow right?)

  1. tradition: ancient Hawaiians didn’t’ have epoxy etc to scarf together a bunch of pieces of wood so widest slice of the tree was what you got.

  2. I think finless, a narrower board is necessary to hold a line not go sideways or slide-ass

sounds about right to me…

1/4’'?

whew thats committed!!!

…ambrose…

and no rail suction… all release…

haute mercy!

Hey ep -

Howzit??

my latest:

Finless Surfing in a new way

I am making Wooden Classics Hawaii ™ Foam cored Alaia boards here on the Big Island of Hawaii. Made with environmentally sound materials, the 6-6 weighs about six pounds features a composite rail, satin film finish and epoxy laminated island grown woods albizza and koa - except some have redwood stringers. 6-6’s feature tailblocks, 8-0’s have nose & tailblocks.

Guys here find the lighter boards float better and are easier to paddle, catch waves and surf. I can also make the Ultra lite Alaia’s thicker with out a “weight problem” so older or heavier guys can go finless too.

MSRP is $650 for the 6-6, $800 for the 8-0.

Shipping is pleasantly inexpensive.

Attached is some info and pics.

Thanks…Gary Young
