Aloha from the war zone in Waikiki. Just dropped in yesterday and saw that Publics was a wind swept 1-2. The Pope Bisect 9-0 travel well and saved me the new charge of $75.00 (one way). Today we are going to Kaneohe (Pymirid Rock) in hopes of finding some clean action.
I did bring some fin’s just in case we get a sponge board session in.
Had my traditional Fatty’s Chineese last night and also stopped by my favorite Hawaiian Poki place in San Island yesterday and got my Ahi wassabi poki fix.
Rooms are scarse and ended up with a room without windows at the Waikiki Beach Aston. Dirty pink carpets, and cheap room fixings. Wonder how many hookers have visited this room?.. Going hotel searching after the session!
Dude, it’s late winter, a NW swell just overhead is running all along the N shore, slightly bigger on the true N shore, and you’re looking for waves in Waikiki??? True, your board prolly won’t handle the pushtrus on the North shore, but at least give it a try!
You can get bigger waves at DH than Waikiki right now!
Pyramids should probably be good with the kind of winds we’ve been having and the forecasts predict more SW winds which should be ideal for the Marine base. I’ve never had the opportunity to surf the base, not having a sponsor, but have heard good things about it. If you’re a big wave charger, which I’m not, the north shore should offer you the challenge with the big stuff coming thru right now, don’t know how the conditions are though. did surf Diamond Head this morning, the Cliff area, on my fish and had a couple of good rides, it was much better for longboarding though. I’m hoping the north shore will drop to a more manageable wave height for my abilities this week…
Good commentary on the waikiki breaks, “War Zone” hahaha- true.
Anyway, know your skill level and have fun! I have lived on Oahu for a few years and been surfing most of my life and my max is about 8 foot (hawaiian measure, up to around 15 foot faces), be careful. I know everyone has there stories but about a month ago I took a spill in 10’ hawaiian at Jockos, right in the impact zone, my leash snapped. I know that is small in comparison to what a lot of people ride but it is a scary thing not getting a breath for two waves and then swimming out of the impact zone exhausted with strong rips, yeah- know your skill level and have fun- that is what it is all about!
Pyrmid Rock was awsome. Here are a couple of pic’s
The three guys are Neal Miyake, me and Jimmy Lam
The second was a typical wave, we surfed for a couple of good hours and had plenty rides to share.
After the session we took a ride around the North Shore. No one was out at any of the breaks except Waimea (which had about 5 folks bob’ing about. Stopped in at Surf and Sea to see whats cooking and checked out a couple of boards.
I paddled out at conoe’s today and bob’ed around for an hour. Sure could of used my 11-2 ha ha.
Guess I had better earm my keep and get some work done.
Later, JohnF
p.s. Had ox tail soup for lunch! Makes me want to move back here!
West wrap today or tomorrow combined with a small southwest thrown in…
Diamondhead or Courts might be the call in town today or tomorrow.
If you have the time you should check out Buffalo’s contest should be alot of fun with the size they are getting now… This weekend was good sized for the contest the canoe contest should be amazing in 6-10 makaha…
Was that Kam Bowl oxtail? (da bestest as they say in upper kalihi)
Howzit oneula, The new swell has hit here and probably starting to hit Oahu, it’s HUGE Kings is breaking on every set and the bay is closing out. It should be even bigger when it hits Oahu sinc it’s always a bit smaller here. Time for some Rhino chasing. Aloha,Kokua
Yep its good today, it wraped to the east, AD’s, Sandys, Maks and baby maks looked sweet. Baby maks looked like waik’s today, about a hundred people out and even people short boarding, thats a first. Its usually a long boarding spot only.
