does anyone here know what pros are using other than the standard Pu/Pe combo. Everyone knows taj is on firewire. But who else is expierimenting and with what?
Dayyan Neve is riding a hayden shapes fibre flex (http://www.haydenshapes.com/news.aspx) and been doing pretty well.
I also think JS has a similar thing happening called a paraletic that parko and others have been trying.
not sure if they have been using them in the comps tho.
scot
i heard both occy and parko were riding JS eps/carbon framed boards similar to firewires at the trestles contest, my former boss has built a couple using a stringerless eps shape with carbon tape lammed onto the rail like a cutlap, i have yet to ride it but hes stoked on the flex for sure, it’s kinda cool to see top level guys opening up to new designs/ materials
Dayyan Neve is currently rated 38 on tour and has failed to make an impact on the WCT this year. he may requalify through the QS.
JS is offering parabolic carbon stringer EPS tech but as far as I could see none of their team riders (Parko , Occy, Bruce Irons, Adrian Buchan) were using in it France.
That makes Taj alone the sole rider at the elite WCT level using “alternative” tech.
Sure was interesting to note how many pu/pe’s the pro’s snapped in 2 foot shorebreak in France.
they look similar but firewire are sandwich construction
the others are just plain glass over eps with a bit of carbon tape on the rails
completely different construction
Hey Steve,
How’s the progress of the new board going?
why or perhaps when will the formatting of
‘‘LE CONTEXT’’ be morphed to what it is
in all actuality it needs to be/
the simularity in construction adheared
to the format is a primary factor.
when will a manufacturer
of repeatables
make a set of boards and send
the chosen set of pilots into the
fray and surf-it out on the level playing field?
the unlimited ''event ‘’ is a race
of another color.
like having a contest(context)
of apples vs. oranges is an intrigue
even a test of styro vs. styro
or compsand vs compsand
or solid woodie vs.solid woodie is
a measurable test (text)
lets have a contest between a hammer and a saw
…ambrose…
or a letter contest between a
vowel and a consonant
or maybe a good speller and
a creative speller…
who won?
by popular vote?
or by the chosen set of judges.
what about who can eat the most dry weatbix without water
Check out the billabongpro.com where you can watch heats on demand and check out Trent Monroe or Dayyan’s heats. The boards look like they’re working pretty well. I think better in these tiny heats than they did in France. One guilty pleasure of mine: while all the debate over what Joe Pro is riding, or how “they” work in big waves, or almost any of the other debates go on, I have to laugh because most of this tech is probably benefiting the “Florida board” the most:) You can roast me for that one, but it keeps me motivated.
p.s. another classic Ambrose:)
There’s a few Coil Construction boards floatin’ around out there, but I’m not naming names.
whats that?
Josh Kerr won a heat on a TL2 surftech at mundaka.Drew one my friends that I know through surfing just got one of your quads and I had a chance to ride it.It went pretty good.I have been seeing more of your boards in the lineup down here.My friend Ronnie from Nomad surf said he got some boards from you to put in his shop.
Right on Surfercross. Nomad is such a rad scene. I’m just starting to go down south more and I’m so stoked on it. I wish I had spent more time down there before. Doing a little fishing while I’m on the road is nice too.
Somebody asked “what’s that” after Mike posted about the Coil Cores. Check out the carbon/spectra thread. Coil is probably the most advanced vac-lam tech going on right now. (no offense comp-sand gurus). Maybe bombard him with posts and the boys will have to launch a website;) THe boards are sooo gooooood.
drew, I think I would hae to agree with you on that statement, it is the subpar locations that will benifit the most from alternative materials. In case anyone hasn’t seen or ridden one of drews boards, I gotta say they are pretty awesome.
Hey Drew,
Really nice meeting you in person last week, sorry I never got you inside my shaping room.
I had put away all the secret stuff and then we just stood outside and I admired your carbon
railed shorty and your cool fish fins, as well as those beautiful eps/perimeter stringer/hd foam
blanks. (anybody around here that wants custom-capable blanks like that should bombard drew
with PM’s and em’s). I think you and Kirk and I could have talked for hours. But you needed to get
back on the road, and we needed to get back to work. Next time.
Mike
