Aluminum Surfboards

This has been mentioned before. Here’s the website with a few pictures and details. http://www.surfalium.com/pages/article.html

Sounds rediculous. The Saloman boards can be layed up w/ aluminum as well. …wonder if you can mount a gun turret as well?

So my quick read of that page you had the link for makes it sound like a regular board/blank with aluminium skins…fairly tried and true in other industries to use aluminium skins or “veneers”. Should have good strength allright, but I wonder about dents - literally. Interesting use of readily available materials. Imagine art-quality anodizing colors…

its unfortunate that any new technologies will never take off in the surf industry. surfers wont pay extra for a board.

As for cost, given present/future environmental restrictions on glassing, aluminium skins might be cheaper especially if the metal is bought in mill runs to keep cost down, which would pretty much ahve to be the case I would think. Guess I’ll have to check that site again and figure the exchange rate…

They seem to be built to get dents…but also claim that this doesn’t compromise the structure. Interesting anyway.
