amazing airbrush art

Being from SanFrancisco, my vote would have to go to RalphEhni, airbrusher for LocalMotion based on Oahu from the early '70's.

…**crap …i suck
**

well… Whatever man. I learned to do airbrush and got excited. I did some stuff for my church on the walls in the childrens church

i’ll try to get some pictures of it and put them up here

No, you’ve got talent, but like on here, someone is always better, Like I say, I learned from those who were better than me, and then there is Sam Cody, resin pigment glosser, pen and ink, air brush, another who’s skills eclipse more than one medium, been in the trenches since the late 50’s

You probably should have posted the Church artwork and not the video.  The vid comes off very much like promotional advertising, aka SPAM.

Keep refining your art/skills.  Make it surf-art/surfboard build oriented.  Post it here.  Who knows, one day sways members may claim you as one of their great masters.

yeah…wasn’t my intentions. I’m new to forums…i now know that people will bash you the split second you get caught just a little off lol.  the world of the inter-web :stuck_out_tongue:

yep, lesson learned,

Forums usually don’t like SPAM which is what your video was…

If it had been just of your airbrushing, you would have received better critique…

So, you’re just starting out aribrushing? With enough practice you could become really good. Everyone starts somewhere.

My best airbrush “pin-up” art so far!

Well good news is you got a pair. Most who would commit such a Swaylockian felony would just disappear into the witness protection program. The cool thing about this place is the incredible talent displayed by the masters of surfboard building. Slow your roll and treat these people with respect. Read! Ask questions after doing your research. Accept the critiques and learn from your mistakes. Do these things and you will gain far more than you can imagine.

Welcome!

What Woody said.

This guy is one the best airbrush artist / shapers I’ve seen-  check it out-

unclegrumpy, thanks for posting those Hynson photo’s. I glued this blank with curved stringers for Mike to shape. However, the D*ckhead who owned his label at the time said “no-way”. So I shaped it myself and did my best 70’s psychedelic paint job. I call it “The day I dropped acid with Mike Hynson”. Mike is an old friend of mine and I showed him this board. He dug it!

This paint job took the better part of a week. Top and matching bottom. Lots of fun!

Barry Snyder / Windigo Surfboards

go lundy,whow.

…ambrose…

6’x10’thanx for the link

I prefer airbrush work like that on the Hynson, above. Not fond of Brophy’s stuff, though I met him and he seems like a decent guy. He’s a Rick Griffin fan, so he can’t be all bad (j/k).

I think Lundy’s work would look best on black velvet, not on surfboards. Very cheeseball.

For years I have been curious as to who was doing Tom Overlin’s airbrush jobs in the mid 70s. I still see those as some of the best examples I ever laid eyes on. On par with the guy (Martin Worthington?) who did Hot Buttered boards in the 70s

yea, the clown who owns the Surfboard Ware housed in Valnco Florida ripped my credit card number off when he personally took it over the phone for a rush order on a padded travel bag about 6 years ago, as I needed one for an Indo trip…3 days after I gave him my CC #, I get a call from my CC company…“Do you know your CC was just used to pay for $5,000 of ISP charges for a T1 line in Florida?”  thought about it for a minute.  “Gotta be the Surfboard Warehouse” and explained why.

So the fraud division of my CC company immediately pounced, charges reversed, they were told “it was just a mistake made by someone in the office”…yea, the gel saturated dirtbag owner…

I got that story via a email a while back, when the salvage was still in progress. What an amazing story and fortunate outcome. If not for lucky coincidence those paintings would have been lost.

My first time viewing the “Chumash” painting was at the Laguna show in 07. I flew 3000 miles just to attend. I spent a week in Laguna beach and went to the museum every day. Each day, I spent a good chunk of time right in front of that painting. I’ve been a Griffin fan and collector since 1963. If I could own just one original by him it would be that painting. Seeing it in person was an emotional experience, but that whole show fit that description, anyway.

Do you folks know about the film project in the works, about RG? I’m proud to say that I contributed to the funding, and will get an associate producer credit.

Trying to remember a name;  It’ll come to me.  Another very good airbrush artist.  Lives on Maui.  Originally out of the OC.  Used to do BYB Backyard Boards…      ???

An important name in the history of surfboard art, is John R. Bredin.      Mid 60’s he was spraying colored resin on foam before glassing, doing rainbow fades and solids.     Then he developed the use of airbrush with water bases paints.     Did most of his work for Surfboards Hawaii, Hynson, and other Encinitas area builders.  Truely a gifted artist.
