ambrose 2 new 12 foot logs !!!

So ambrose showed up at my place a couple days ago with a new 12 foot long balsa log on top of his truck. Yesterday he was here again with another 12 foot balsa log. So today we got together for a session. Got a couple pictures of ambrose cutting up on his log. Aftere, he said he had a good session. As for me, I was bummed. Seems is if Murfy was with me the whole time. Everthing that could go wrong did go wrong. Maybe a 12 foot log is more than I can handle or it was just the Karma today! We sat around for a while and caught up on old times. ambose is full of wisdome and advice but even that wasn’t enough to save me from catching it big time in the evening. Told you I would get it ambrose. Anyway we are going to get together again in a couple days for another session. I am not going to post a picture of ambrose because I don’t have his permission. What do you think abrose? Should I post it ? I wounder if anyone would want to see it anyway? Wood_Ogre

Just put a black box over his eyes, then noone will recognise him!!!

I want to see…

id love to see this mans face, but i think its best for all

if we just never know…

ambrose is a wordsmith. i’d like to see him slide.

Has a picture of ambrose ever been posted ? I know I have seen pictures of his shop (place) Ah whatever! I wouldn’t want to put up a picture with out his OK. Maybe he dosen’t want anyone to see! After all he is a legend and I would not want to risk messing that up . Well off to work! Hope we hear from ambrose. Hoa Binh Wood_Ogre

please tell us how he looks like…

does he have fangs? big ears? green freaky skin??

does he eat children???

Yes Ambrose has been posted on someones visit to Kauai thread

did you get a pic of the wild hair growin out of his ear?

he may be braiding it by now!! LOL!!!

these days are gifts to us from an

unspeakable benevolence

thanks to every elemental

and person in the flow to

allow communion with such beautiful trees.

this log came from dan shook

at pepperwood plantation.

I have been excited

and consumed by this

Druid excercise for a couple weeks.

asking questions of many for some time on this

topic of balsa wood procurement and handling

literally years of what might well be mostly

misinformation has brought me to a saturday

in april on or about the full moon

to watch the man with the right tool

ply the steel and aluminum and gas power

to reduce this miracle of botanical wisdom

into milled pices to dry for future use.

like a kid waist deep in candy

I arrived to see mark had

already done considerable set up.

the tall trees in the homesteads rustling overhead

a big change from my house environ

300feet lower on the sandy coastal plain

where the water table is five feet dowm

the red dirt nutured by the harms family

for quite some time was a fine place to be.

the bustle and fuss that I was able to contribute was

little to what was necessary but in the end

after mark trying to coax

a temeprmental bandsaw

into submission ,I believe a wonder was achieved.

this wonder sits in my front yard on some old saw horses

covered with some old corrugated roofing

patiently exorcising acumulated moisture

I painted the ends after wrestling wit them

yesterday afternoon when I got home

from marks wood temple homestead.

when mark brought out the camera

and had me pose for the photo op

I must ad mit being self concious

because I had not or was not

to run the saw in this session

I was only posing with my hands in a

simulated opperating position

and because of this I flipped

my safty glasses upside down

and folded my dust mask in half to smile

for the camera. that said

I have no reservation

about publishing the photo here

for all to see

the credit for instilling the courage to persue

this project rests for the greatest part in marks lap.

thanx to him the trunk of this tree will not become dust in a nursury yard.

and perhaps the door will continue to open

to utilize these quick growing

balsa trees to their highest potential.

…ambrose…

I put on my

my hunt custom surfboards

t-shirt to write this post

up the revolution

praises to paler

praise swaylocks

Ambrose had a waterproof camera at the first Swayloholics Anonymous (2003) in Big Sur…

That’s him on the left.

“the wild hair growin out of his ear”

hahahahahahahahahahahaha… Oh my god…

I asked him when I would be ready to stop pluckin’ the hair out of my ear… I don’t remember what he said, but it had something to do with a level of maturity… then the conversation turned to the mature smell of ones shorts if…

I have been in the waters of Ambrose’s home break many times, he always tells me of the good days, but we seem to only see the so so days. I will tell you this much compared to the mans wave knowledge, and water knowledge thhe can not write a word. I always enjoy my time spent with the man seeing what he has done since my last vist, enjoying his stoke. He is real. I hope I’m not stepping out of line when I call him a friend.

AMBROSE YOU RULE !!! show the boards damn it…

ambrose & proneman checkin the surf…

i, too, would LOVE to see the boards in question …please , Amby ??

and shots of you surfing on them …

cheers mate

curious ben

mark ,wood ogre ,stopped by

and informed me

the force was with the saw

this morning and all the slabs

are now cut to transport

and dry in my drying yard.

I was duely schooled

as to the value of these

here 8 slabs of wood .

I am the steward ,

some time in october

we shall derive stringers

from these slabs of wood.

the density of the wood dictates this use.

to make a hollow balsa requires a younger tree.

or a female or ,or , or, …

so down the hill from the homesteads I rolled

stopped at the wailua beach light

at the first in line spot at the stoplight

auspicious?

I think so.

I turned off my engine…

a momentary meditation,

the light changed to green

and on to waipouli as dusk decended

now it’s dark and the wood awaits trestles to dry on…

aloha from waipouli

…ambrose…

mark took two pictures…

perhaps he will be posting them soon…

For those who are waiting to see some pictures of ambrose with a couple of beautiful balsa wood surf boards here is some pictures but not what you expected.
