Shaun Ward jumps from 77 to 30
Nice to see the Americans being competitive on the QS. That’s a brutal tour. No waiting periods - start on Monday (if there are no trials) run until the following Sunday - no matter the conditions. Often the Americans are not as hungry as their peers from Hawaii, SA, Australia, Brazil, and Europe. Perhaps “too much sponsorship too soon” for the developing surfers from the US.
It will require about 11,000 points from a surfers best 8 results to qualify for the CT. That’s an average of 1375 points per event. If you look at the current QS rating there are only a few surfers who have 3 results of 1350 or better to this point. There are 13 more 5 star and 6 star QSs left on this years schedule.
After the European leg of the QS some will have nearly qualified, but not until the last few events - in Brazil and on the North Shore - will we know who will qualify from the QS for the 2009 WCT.
Happy Fathers Day! (again)
