yep , I have enjoyed the lightness [for their sizes] of both the “Moonrocket” and also the “Auslocks” boards of Hicksy’s , and also the cheaper prices…
[ plus the strength…the moonrocket wing didn’t even have a chip, dent or crack , after it impacted my head…so I guess you could say the epoxy resin had permeated the six or so layers of cloth Grant put there , and that it was strong … [pity my head wasn’t as strong …stitches out tomorrow …“yewwww” !] …
So, I have decided to do the “mal-adjustment” with epoxy resin .
The opportunity / possibility of having an hour or so per side, to do an 8’6" to ? ’ ? " ] deck and bottom appeals to me on this one , having not glassed a board this size of my own before .
Here’s a breakdown of cost , for a comparison…
3 litres epoxy [and hardener included] …$60-65aus [not “Resin Research” resin ]
3 litres polyester lam resin …$51aus [4 litres is only $55 !]
and 2 litres polyester filler resin …$33aus
250ml catalyst… $11aus
so , price-wise , epoxy [araldite brand] $65aus v [polyester resin] $95aus.
And more time to relax , while lamming the deck , rails , bottom , [and ?tail and nose blocks? [maybe]
the next project , the "mini-prawn’ fish [?“the shrimp” / the “yabby” / the “marron” ?] , I would hope to do a resin swirl on , so that will probably be polyester resin [plus , it’s only 5’8 to cover]
cheers !
