AND THEN THERE WERE......SIX??????

Sorry Todd,

I know It’s frustrating to find out that you are plowing ground that has been plowed before. Please note, my comment was directed to the post of Kensurf, about 7 fins, not your six fin setup. Which I think shows some promise. Now, help me out here, are your comments above, intended as a pat on the back, or a slap in the face?

NEVER a slap in the face Bill!

As with most of my posts…I tried to convey a bit of humor. Sorry it didn’t come across clear enough.

I know you were directing it at Ken…I was just picking on you…but only with the utmost respect intended.

Bill…please always assume I’m joking. I kid around and usually try to bring a bit of levity with my posts.

If I am picking on you or anything like that, it is always meant as a show of admiration and respect.

My apologies if it tweaked you at all.

Surfding,

That’s just what works best for me up to his point in my surfing progression & experimentation. I have no desire to surf Mavericks but if I did I would attempt to ride Todd’s 6 fin just because that’s how I do - and get crushed probably

Greenlight enjoy the stoke and don’t let me mess up your fun. I think I’ll make a 13 fin just to one up Todd!

Hey SD,

It’s all good. Sorry if my comment came off as an absolute. I know quads are excellent in large waves (more fin surface area - more hold) but I’ve had more fun riding the same board as a thruster in 1-2’ OH than as a quad (5 ProBoxes)

I guess your 13 fin will be for toe high waves? haha

I remember one time in the 80’s, either “Surfing” or “Surfer” magazines ran a little article with Buttons and a Local Motion board that had 17 glass-ons, just for a laugh.

The story went that Buttons rode it, snapping fins out in his hands til it started to work.

It started to work at 7 fins…

I’d love to dig that article up…but that pile of mags is long gone.

Josh- There is actually more to that story than the magazine let on. If I remember right, the board was never intended to be ridden it was just a buch of extra fins they had laying around the shop. Maybe Greg Griffin will chime in here as he knows the real scoop.

Hey Mahna,

Yeah I had always imagined it was not a serious deal…a lark…I could’nt have even been a teenager yet at that time…its funny how that sort of thing sticks in your memory.

I learned on a single fin in 1979, right on the cusp, and I remember seeing an early thruster, thinking “What the $%^& is THAT gonna do!?” LOL.

So for sure I say, bring on all-the-more-fins…its all good, I just don’t want to sand glass-ons anymore, and only one box would really be nice! I’ve had mind to try a single fin “supercharged”…(oops differet thread!)

Interesting. how do these six finners work? What are teh benefits/disadvantages of such setup?

Larry, any insight or what not on the six shooters fin placement layout?

Thanks

Nice shootin Ace!

I am a big fan of that wide square tail.

Love the mini fin up front.

Is that a Fusion box cut in half?

The little boxs are small Futures. I have also used LOK BOX with good results. The six fin boards boards I have ridden/made are very “intuitive” and feel like they are on “rails”. They have a extremely clean feel. they do not feel “finney”. Very positive yet loose at the same time. They manage wider tails really well.

Perfect!

Can you give me the dims I need to place six on a slab I have? Got a blank floating around and would love to do something like this and hand it out to the locals to hear their feedback.

Much thanks!

Shoots!

T.

Hey there…there are many of both…the Synergy(pun intended lol) between fin placement and tail shape are SUPER critcal. More so than just about any other setup IMHO.

I just got a couple of shots from my team rider Billy Tam testing it out.

Here’s one of my favorites

He was riding it in the standard quad position for this session.

Hope I’m not hijacking too much…I noticed the EVF logo on one of Ace’s boards posted on this thread…Interesting stuff built righ there in San Diego County…not your standard glass job…strong and light…

Todd , Ace…keep up the good work…

The name of your model is pretty clever. I like your lam for it. The fin layout looks balanced as well!
