AND THEN THERE WERE......SIX??????

Some of you just recently saw this one…

but now there is a slight twist

So…somebody I trust “suggested” I install a “traditional” quad setup as well.

My first reaction was, “You’re kidding, right?”

After some lengthy discussion I agreed.

Now it is a completely different animal.

Testing is scheduled to start this weekend.

…we’ll see…

Please feel free to chime in with thoughts, impressions…whatever…

Jordy Smith has been riding a 6 fin by Glen Winton at bells this week, there is a clip above… seems to go pretty well

Oh boy Todd…

Can’t wait for the ride reports.

T.

Hey Boothy

Nice footage! Thanks for the clip!

Yeah this one is a bit different than the other six fins that I have seen because of the rear fin placement.

It’s totally an experiment.

I have a couple different setups in mind as I described on the other post. One being just riding it with the front two and the rear two.

Hopefully it will go well

Hey T!!!

My fellow mad scientist.

It should be interesting to say the least!

Mahalo

Todd,

i will be interested to hear how it goes. i am about to start messing with a thruster i turned into a 5 fin… i wonder if the changes will yield similar differences?

cheers boothy

I have some experience with that one.

I Love the ability to switch between quad and thruster! It’s like having two completely different boards.

I don’t know about riding with all 5 in at the same time though.

Could be interesting depending on the setup.

I guess this makes you a Fin Slut…

I wish we could import ChipFish61 over here to work with Todd…Keep up the good work!!!

Yeah…Todd, its really nice, but…

I had my arm twisted to go a 5-fin for a customer lately…and as I predicted the verdict has been that it goes well as a quad. Groan…

All these fins willy-nilly, its all extra weight and work.

You know what it all makes me want to do?

Go back and revolutionise the single fin…somehow… Nice, uncluttered, no million installs. Ahhhhh…like a beer after work on a hot day!

two, two, two many fins…

my experience tells me that how much things it has behind the board, the slowest whe rides…

if it´s a way of having a way of changing from a quad to a thrusther, it´s understandable, but more than that…

Thanks Josh

It is a “test” board so I didn’t mind too much.

My original idea was just to have a quad with a different placement.

The really nice thing about a removable fin system…they’re removable! LOL

[img_assist|nid=1041803|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=100|height=75]RIGHT ON TODD, GETCHA SOME!!!

Steve, I was thinking about this board…

First, my neighbor suggested a name: The Ginsu

Second, I think the rears are too big…who’s the test rider? did it go in to turns ok?

Tyler- LOL- The Ginsu! I love it!

I have re-templated the rear fins and as soon as I can get them made the testing will resume.

Hey Todd.

Quads for head high and below. Thrusters for overhead.

It will be interesting to hear how that 6 finner goes as a Thruster with the rear fin split in two as you have here. Put zero degree inserts in the rears.

Love the experimenting you do!

I have a 6’5" quad + 1 shortboard that I’ve ridden with all five in… normally I just ride it quad, (FCS Fusions, M5s & Gxs). Move them together or apart, forward or back to tweak. Lots of fun. I haven’t tried it as a thruster yet cuz I don’t have a set that I think will work. I HAVE tried it with five in though, the normal quad setup and a little tiny GS trailer. Tried it like that for a fairly heavy, wedgy, barreling wave here on a couple days, the grip is phenomenal but it tracks a bit (I think maybe bringing all the fins together would help but I haven’t tried enough. one thing I noticed was that several times if I got a bit too high on the wave it would dig in and I would go sideways up and over the falls, still on top of the board, only to be crushed. It was about head high and throwing over pretty thick. That said I’m not very experienced at that type of wave… but I had never had that happen there with it as a quad setup. So next time I have the chance I’ll try it out and take a fin key so I can slide 'em around a bit and play. It was epic for late drops though, as long as you can stomp down the tail as you come in it grabs and you’re flying instantly. I’m not a convert but I’m not closed to the idea!

Have fun with this tester, it looks like it’ll give you plenty of playing time! Looking forward to hearing what you think of that split center fin setup. I’ve gotta try and find the thread about the board, I want to read more about it.

well I may as well throw this one back in the mix

Im one up on ya Toddster, !!

Somewhere out there is a 1971 Surf Systems with exactly that seven fin configuration, built by yours truely. Hmmmm, that was 38 years ago. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

**Quads for head high and below. Thrusters for overhead. **

Where did you get that Ideal?

Please tell Nathan Fletcher that he shouldn’t ride his Quad in 25 foot Mavricks because quads are for head high and below. Thrusters for overhead. I really blew it because 3 years ago when I was making Quad Towboards for Todos and guys were riding giants on them should of been on thrusters.

My Bad!

Does that mean the smaller the waves the more fins you should have?

So for 1 to 2 foot day I should install 6 fins?

Single fins for Waimea?

Please advise?

Now I’m confused?

Bill, I keep telling you…you don’t count!

We all know you are ahead of your time…we’re just playing catch up.

Come on! Everytime I think I’ve got something good its’ “Bill did that back in 1873 with a rock and some driftwood!”

I know…I know…that rear fin placement on mine was divinely inspired! HA!

Only if Bill is the “Divine”! LOL
