alright, i got a de-lam project on my hands. an area about 4" x 12" on the hull near the finbox of a 9’6" 3" thick. it runs parallel to the stringer.
i’ve never done a de-lam so large and was wondering if i HAD to cut the area out and put a nice size cloth patch or if i could do something more simple (like pour resin into the area and use a small patch?)
It’s on the bottom, right? Is it poly or epoxy? Let me know and I’ll tell you how to fix it. Forget drilling and injecting, or otherwise pouring resin in there.
I’d say you pretty much have to cut out the delammed glass. If it’s a single layer of glass on the bottom, it should be easy. Without seeing it, I’d do this: Cut away the bad glass. Clean out any loose foam, and fill in any divits with resin/filler mix. Sand the existing glass around the cutout area down to the weave, and patch the exposed area with cloth so it overlaps onto the sanded good glass. Fair and hotcoat to even it out with the rest of the bottom.
