I came across a nice used noserider that had an awesome glass job and tail block that caught my attention. Once I started checking it out I realized the shape seemed really nice too. It had a long, deep nose concave and 50/50 rails. The nose and tail rocker both looked good. Any ways I did a little research and this is all I could come up with http://otisdesigns.com/index.php I read the bio and it seems like he has only been shaping seriously for a few years.
Any one ever surfed or seen an Otis Design? If so I would love to hear your thouhgts.
well if you checked the shape, you don’t know a GODDAMN thing about shaping, becaue he CANNOT shape yet. Uses Steve Clark to bail out his F-ups, cannot figure out how to find his ass in the dark with both hands, no amount of tool ability, bought the cheapest tools.
I walked into my wood shop one afternoon to find his with an arm load of my pre-dimensioned redwood and bass for tail and noseblocks, like a deer in the head lights, he said I though this was trash wood because you have it in a trash can. Right then and there I told his we were going to scrap if this happens again, everything you see belongs to me, paid for by me, milled by me, keep your mitts off anything that is is my wood shop.
As I have asid many many times, just because someone turned a blank into white foam, doesn’t mean the can shape their way out of a wet paper bag.
I DO NOT bag on the hobbiest, but hang out your shingle that you are a shaper and want people to pay for your services, you better be able to stand the heat, do it good, do it right or stay out of the game.
Jim, thanks for the blunt comments. I am not a shaper I have one board under my belt and that didn’t turn out well I will probably try again one day. I don’t claim to know a god damn thing about shaping! Thats why i ask questions on this forum occasionally The shape of the Otis seemed alright and if Steve Clark is helping him out that may be the reason why it turned out ok. I am assuming it was glassed at channin and that’s why the swirl and glass job looked nice.
One of the reasons I asked about this shape and wanted more info is because the serial number was 19 so i figured there weren’t many boards under his belt. The amount they wanted for it was kind of high I thought too. I know there are are a lot of hobbyists out there who shape great boards but it seems like this one to avoid.
Roger that Herb. This dog had the "softest mouth" and came from pheasant country. For some reason, the area of Chico, Ca. has a lot of Redbones. My brother had a Lab/Bone mix that weighed out at 120 lbs.! He rescued a fish bag(burlap) of SIX!!!!! puppies someone had thrown into the Sacramento river. That would have made me go "hunting".
How about the "Outlaw Josey Wales"? If that was a real one, it was smaller than any I knew.
ps. My Bro's dog was named, Ozzie after the Nelsons.
nice to know that there are other dog lovers here.
at present,i have a toller,"nova scotia duck tolling retriever" and a half and half great pyreness/bernese mountain dog(pictured on my avatar). both rescues from the o.c. animal shelter.
would love a red though.
i hope whoever tossed those pups over board got there's..............maybe i'll catch-up to him or her someday.throw them in a sack and pitch them overboard.
I'm with you 100% Herb on going after the Creep that threw the puppies in the river. I asked my brother if he looked for them but he said he had his hands full with trying to revive the pups. People that treat life as cheap don't deserve one. Thank Heaven it was a wide slow moving part of the Sac.
The pyrenese/bernese is white? I'd of thought it would be black or black and tan. Sounds like a couple of great companions. At least they will never break your heart.
