Anyone ever heard of "NexGen" foam?

I was talking to my dad earlier and he said he just bought some yellow insulating foam from a local building store. He said it felt like Dow styrofoam (XPS), but it seemed stronger and denser. I called the place where he bought it, but they couldn’t tell me much about it except that it was called NexGen foam and comes in 4x8 sheets and a variety of thicknesses. I would go check it out, but my dad and the store are in FL, and I’m in HI. I searched online and I think the foam they’re talking about is polyisocyanurate as described on http://www.hpanels.com/pages/pdfs/H_Shield_F_3.pdf. The foam pictured on this page is white, not yellow, so I’m not sure. Has anyone ever heard of this? Any thoughts on its potential for surfboards?

We use Polyisocyanurate for roof insulation. It usually comes with some sort of paper or foil backing. Not the best once it gets wet so you might have something else in your hands.

Then it must not be the same stuff, because my dad seems to think he can use the foam he bought to make a floating dock.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn’t “polyisocyanurate” be nothing else than good old “polyurethane”?
