So, I just got a new job…and in two weeks I’ll be moving from New York down to the Jupiter, Florida area. Although it hasn’t all quite hit me yet, I’m already stoked. Looking forward to surfing more frequently and in warmer water.
Anyway, I already checked the usual suspects–Surfline, wannasurf, jupitersurf, etc.–but I was just wondering if anyone here can give me a little subjective feedback about the area, the vibe at different spots, general places to check out (food, shops, whatever), etc. I’ll be coming down next weekend to find a place to live, so any help is appreciated.
i’m from boca raton, which is about 40 minutes south…although i frequently dawn patrol around palm beach. plenty of fun places to surf up there. you’ll hear rumors about a heavy vibe around juno, but i’ve seldom had any problems. the jupiter inlet used to be a really fun surf spot, but they dredged it a few years back and it really hasn’t been the same since. anyhow, you can give it a check at http://evsjupiter.netfirms.com/. when you get down this way for good, feel free to shoot me a message and we’ll hit up a few spots between palm beach and jupiter. what boards do you usually ride?
Hey, Brandon. Thanks for the response. At the moment, I’ve got two logs–a 9’ Velzy (shaped by Jim Phillips) and a 10’6" Phillips (haven’t even surfed it yet…was hoping to let my wife use it and do some paddle surfs with it myself) and a few shortboards, including a 5’6" Brom fish, which was my main board last summer. I’m into pretty mellow waves and just having fun. Hopefully I’ll finally get a chance to really improve my lackluster surfing skills in this new environment. So, yeah, maybe we can meet up sometime once I settle in…
Sounds like a plan. I’m looking forward to getting that thing in the water, too. When we got it back to our apartment, we realized that it was too big to fit in the service elevator. Heck, I barely got it up the very tight stairwell. Needless to say, it never left the apartment again. The ship-in-a-bottle metaphor comes to mind. But in a few weeks, she shall be released. I’ll be in touch.
