I visited Cal Poly this weekend and took some time to visit some of the local shops to get the scoop on what boards work well in the area. Went to the Unknown Surf Shop in Pismo and the guy there suggested a good sized fish as a good stepdown from the longboards I’ve ridden to the shortboards I hope to ride. IIRC, he suggested a 6’7" or 6’9" fish. The brand he had was Hooligan by Rick Adams, and from personal inspection they seemed to be very high quality boards, glass jobs were flawless. He suggested the PE/PU, but also had the epoxy/eps boards by the same shaper. Has anyone heard of these boards? They seemed very nice. Also, I thought his reccomendation of the fish was good, since I’m only going to have one board for some time something inbetween size wise and a little wider/thicker" like a fish seems to be a good idea. I think it was $514? Seemed like a good price (Shoot, why get a surftec when you could get that???) What are your thoughts on these boards (If you’ve heard of them) and what would you suggest? I also wanted to ask if any of you guys would be willing to make me a board? I’ve seen some of your work and it is downright beautiful I plan to shape my own board (There’s a shaping bay at cal poly woot!) eventually but for my first board I’d like to get something that I know will work.
Thanks,
Nathan
Oh, what kind of wetsuits do you guys like? Everyone I asked down there said to get a 4/3, but I don’t know what brands have the best deals/tech.
