Anyone tryed these fins ??

Hey all.

Havn’t be lurking in a while and seemed a good time to ask about these fins…

They are the FCS g-crv (curved) model. They are carbon fibre and have a dramatic curve to them.

They are superlite and the profile looks like it could work. I dont wanna hear about the price though,

because i know how much they are retail (and i can get em cheap).

What i do want to know is your thoughts on them… has any of you tryed them?

According to fcs :

"The curved shape enhances the boards planing ability by generating upward force in the tail.

The upright template allows for very tight turns. It is a must for mushy surf and for novice surfers learning to generate speed.

Any board will feel dramatically shorter, skate better and fly over flat spots."

side base: 4" 101mm

side depth: 4 1/4" 124mm

center base: 4" 101mm

center depth: 4 1/4" 124mm

They are for a mates board. he is a learner and i was going to make some but the drive isnt there. :? must easier to buy em.

Cheers in advance

Chris

The feel somewhat similar to the Vector 3/2’s , but without the annoying ventillation whistle at high speeds.

Lots of lift, a surprising amount of drive. Actually had an eye-opening session in well-overhead hurricane barrels. Was riding a 6’2", the lift of the fins seemed to get me in earlier, and as long as I did not horse it too hard off the bottom and cause a spin-out they were GREAT once locked into the barrel and screaming down the line- felt like I was skimming higher in the water and definitely going faster, allowing me to go way out on the shoulder, do a wide-arc cutback, and then a quick 180 carve under the lip to get back into the barrel again. I felt like I was “toying” with the waves more than just riding them.

BUT they do tend to overwhelm the fin plugs as twin and larger side fins do to the FCS system. I’ve blown a set doing a hard cutback, a friend knocked a set out with his knee in a wipeout, and I have heard of others doing the same.

I use them daily. They are magic.

For some reason a few years ago, I decided that I needed to go up a few

inches on my surfboards (I’m 42 years old). I struggled on a few 6’2"s and even a 6’3".

I was frustrated with my surfing and somehow didn’t make the connection between

my frustration level and my board size.

I went through just about every fin that FCS makes trying to get some stoke back.

Finally I tried the G CRV. Mana from heaven. It made dog boards into my favorites.

It does just what the website claims. It adds uplift to the tail and makes turns super tight.

I have since gone back down to 5’10"s and 5’11"s but still use these fins almost every session.

Occasionally changing them out for FG3’s when in a barrelling high tide situation.

+1 on G CRV’s.

I use them as side bites on a longboard with a 7’ cutaway center fin.

tried several other combinations before I settled on these. Better drive / glide through mushy sections where before I would just stall.

Thanks everyone for the replys. Very much appreciated.

Im now thinking that i’ll try em

I just hope that my budget attempt at fcs plugs holds together :S

Not that there is much surf… havnt surfed for 5 and half weeks.

now THAT sucks.

I have a set my friend gave me. He swears by them. I put them on my thruster. Too much flex or something. Mushy feel out of turns or something. That’s my take. Still have them. Maybe I’ll try them on another board. Mike
