Look in the archives and there wasn’t much. Saw Liquitex Interference (pearl powder) in the paint store. Pretty cheap, $4 a jar. Anyone use this on their boards? I am doing a flame design so I thought this would be cool looking. It adds a shimmer when the light hits it, or is this asking for trouble with a new board.
I was going to paint it on the blank with an airbrush and acrylic paints.
Haven’t used it, but can’t see a problem. The product is most likely a Mylar refractory powder. Only caution would be use a more open tip to reduce potential clogging. And don’t lay it on too thick.
I used some of that product in “interference gold” on one of my kiteboards ecxept I mixed it w/ some epoxy and rolled on a very thin coat before laminating the final layer of 4oz/ yard glass on the deck and bottom. It came out with a pretty nice slightly metallic sheen but I found out you can not use pigmented resin to wet out a rice paper logo.
I already broke the board due to the laminate being too light, mostly carbon fiber, riding the board over a rock and some other abuse. However there was no delamination and no indication at all that the pigment affected the strength of the laminate.
I have no experience with arcylics under a polyester laminate but I think the pigment probably wouldn’t affect it. There is a chance you might have trouble spraying it with an airbrush, the small amount I used seemed to thicken up the epoxy quite a bit.
i have used it quite a bit years ago… it looks nice added to you protec or clear too. however when you get a repair its impossible to match. what it was good for was claytons sprays… panels, patterns and designs all loook great and subtle sprayed in pearl. there is many different colors of pearl too
