We’ve added a few things to the latest version of the APS3000 Software
To get the updates, just start the program with you computer connected
to the internet, they should automatically download.
The main feature added on this update is the ability to print the profile and the outline.
(Sorry for the slowness on this one as we’re aware it’s been in demand)
Go to File → Print
Regarding printing to plotters and printers like that, we haven’t had the chance to test that but are told that it works. We just don’t know the specifics.
Profiles can be printed on regular printers, either with the rolling paper (old school) or the regular stuff and then just put the paper together.
Much of the credit for this feature should go to Haavard as he did most of the coding.
Thanks Haavard.
Other behind the scenes additions/bug fixes have been made that will hopefully make certain things operate a little faster.
Upcoming Features:
Full rail cuts on one side of the board which will likely make
smooth rounded rails easy
Other odds and ends and requests we receive.
Longer Term: 3D view (This is taking a while for a number of
reasons, mainly cause of our Java’s use of 3D and our goal to stay
platform independent while avoiding extra downloads and installations)
Thanks for the upgrade! I was designing a 5’-1 Grom blank yesterday to cut from EPS and was wishing for this feature. Just downloaded the upgrade and it worked great. Thanks again!
you can download J2SE 5.0 JRE/SDK, that should work fine.
otherwise the link right below has the archive of the old JRE’s (Java Runtime Environment).
Sorry it’s a little bit of a hassle with the Java. Microsoft and Sun Microsystems aren’t really friends so Bill Gates makes stuff like this more trouble than it needs to be.
I was just going to thank you. I just printed out a template with the new update and it came out sweet. I realized that to get a good template I needed to set my margins to zero so the template comes out square easily. I like that only half of the templates print out, making it very easy to put on masonite. Obviously, the guy that designed it had some background in boardbuilding. Thanks again for that update…now where’s my jig saw? i need to cut out a template…
I used an HP laser printer. I think those pages without lines are because the template might be too big for the paper. Try orienting the paper either vertically or horizontally and see what happens. Also, make sure to set your paper marggins to zero. Hopefully that helps.
Still waiting for the call that my board is done… I’m very hopeful that it can be done… There might be a problem with the 1lb foam and the size of the board I’m getting shaped… Fingers crossed…
I’m having some trouble printing. I brought my file to Kinkos to print since I don’t have a large format printer, but they said they could not print .brd files and weren’t really ready to try. I then tried a standard HP laserjet at work, but it didn’t print either. The printer didn’t even try, even though my computer sent it to the printer (the problem is that the printer is working just fine for all other documents). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m really anxious to start my next board, but I need this template to begin! Thanks in advance! This software has really helped me come up with some great creations, even when I can’t afford to put money into the materials at that time. I look forward to trying the machine someday.
You need the APS3000 software opened to print. So just, open the APS3000 program and open your file then print from there. You could also save it as a .pdf file and print from there. But you would get the whole template not just half.
I save it as a .pdf file; and by creating a custom paper size, (I have to deselect my home printer in my Macs preferences) say 24"x 96"or something close to your board size, and then it ‘‘prints’’ the outline to one big page in pdf file. This gets sent to a print shop that I know and I get back a full sized sheet. Cut out the outline, use it to mark the masonite and jigsaw away.
