aps3000 question

To all aps3000 gurus, i have a question:

What am i doing wrong, trying to bring a jpg into the program to outline it. I’ve read the help option in the program. It seems to me when you get to the “hold ‘t’ and click tail…” part, you jpg or whatever should already be imaged, and this is what you click on, correct?? If so, this is not working for me. At first i thought i was supposed to click on the tail and nose of an existing .brd file, but after rereading the help instructions, it makes it seem as if i am supposed to click on the actual image that is imported. I am not using the import option, i am using image->outline method…what am i doing wrong??? please help.

bump

open your board file

open your image file and click ok in the box

point your mouse at the nose of the image, hold n key down while clicking mouse

then point your mouse at the tail, hold t key down while clicking mouse

now zoom in on nose and realign mouse with better precision, hold n key and click

repeat for tail.

works for me

If you can see the image of the board and you have some kind of outline up be it one of aps3000’s (generic shortboard) or one of your own. You can hold ‘n’ then click on the nose of the image this will stretch the outline. Do the same with the tail.

hope that helps

I posted an answer and then realized that (edit) Actually, FIRST, you have to start by clicking NEW or OPEN (saved) board and picking a basic APS template to work from, or your own saved template

And then along the top bar, er, to the right of FILE, there’s a SHOW/HIDE drop down where you check off various things like “show points” “show ghost board” “show original board” and “show image board”

Also make sure you’re on OUTLINE when you open an image file

I also don’t use the IMPORT tab off the FILE menu to start with an image – I use IMAGE BOARD > OUTLINE, but they should both work

You could try saving your jpg to your desktop, and importing it from there…? That’s where I always put it to grab–I also would try saving that image as a different type of image file.

That’s the way I do it.

Another thing to add is when picking a picture try to pick or make the background of the pic white or light in color so you can see the lines of the outlines. I also cut the outline of the board in half so I can see if I’m trully centered. Just little points. You said in a previous post that you use a mac. could that be a reason? I haven’t used the aps program on a mac though.

Hope it works out,

Rio

whew-boy!-sounds like more work than if you just shaped the whole thing on your own!!!

Hey Matt,

Nah- reading it, it may sound like a bit of trouble but its not really. I don’t know how fast you make your outlines but I can get one printed out, cut and pasted on masonite in less than 30 mins. Try it out, its not that bad.

Cheers,

Rio

Well, maybe but it’s fun to play with, and I don’t have a ton of large format paper to draw all the temps I’ve drawn out on…

I was reminded of the guy that had plenty of pencils and paper confronted with Bill Gates’ little products

And the protestations of the candle sellers… ; )

APS is really a very useful tool for visualization and refinement of shapes and your understanding, even if you never printed a thing off it.

Thanks for all the input.

It turns out just the one jpg i was trying to use wasn’t working for some reason, it was corrupt i think, all others work. Thought i was going crazy for a second there.
