I was going to call this thread are shapers a bunch of moaning pricks but that’s stereotyping just a bit. Maybe I should of called it are customers a bunch of moaning pricks but that’s stereotyping a bit as well. Surfboards are beautiful creations in the right hands but surfboards are generally not going to be hung on the wall of an art gallery for people to admire. They are to be surfed.
And because they are to be surfed they should all handle the rigors placed on them for a decent length of time. This includes dents, breakage, delams and all the other nasties you can throw at a board. The answer is pretty simple. Make a stronger board. Compsand if you will.
I think there’s this attitude amongst certain people that because it took countless hours to make and looks very nice that you should buy another one if it falls apart on it’s maiden voyage. I think it’s this sort of attitude that shafts this industry sometimes. Or maybe not.
Its tough to experiment, financially anyway, on compsands. I dont have the experience nor the equipment to make them myself. I would rather shape PU or EPS boards myself, lay them up by hand, surf them for a bit and move on. If I had to spend $750 to $1000 each month per board for a custom compand I probably wouldnt be having as much fun or would be homeless.
That said, has anyone really had a board ‘fall apart’ on their first session due to something other than bad luck or stupidity? I mean, my daily driver is almost a year old and aside from some foot wells its in good shape.
You don't build boards.....you just start threads....
I would buy a Sways tshirt with tha slogan. Awesome.
This is some funny shit…
And, thank god after the soap opera I just read about those fins w/wing… That’s some sad stuff… And, why did the fact it’s proven to only increase performance in jets by @ 5% get over looked… Hard to say how much that’s gonna translate… Ah - I’m digressing…
