Aloha Everyone,
I had a couple questions for you guys…
i want to do some artwork on a board that I shaped and i’ve heard a lot about the posca pens…When i went on surfsource.net they had both oil-based and water-based…what one am i supposed to use…
Also, do you put it straight on the foam, or what…I’m totally new to this all, and I want to make sure I start out with the right information.
mahalo!
Peace, Aloha, & God Bless,
Cherish
SG,
Look in the archives, type in posca pens, you will have tons to read. Good luck, peace and waves…
i use posca pens for a lot of my artwork…only ever use water based ones but. they are water based, but dry waterproof. oil based materials can react with things like the styrene in your resin…so it should be avoided.
important…i don’t use poscas on the foam…it is hard to get clean lines while working with a porous medium like a shaped blank.
all my posca stuff (and i use poscas in conjunction with traditional methods as well) is applied to the sanded ‘hotcoat’. you get really clean lines and solid colours.
i have then gloss coated over the top…or more usually used a clear acrylic spray finish to seal the art.
Sand the board with 3m 600 wet-dry where you’re going to do the art work. Get all the scratches out. Go to the art store and get some water based acrylic paint. It’s a buck a bottle in any color you want it. Mix the paint about 2 to 1 with water and got to work with brushes, masking tape and if you want to do pin lines just use a Q-Tip. After you’re done you can gloss right over your work and polish the finished product. You can even sand the color work with 600 very lightly so you get a better bond with the finish coat.
