Nice.

love those fins , they look so natural on the board , like the fins and board are one …

very nice work …

from the various angles it looks like it will go …

even tho i couldnt see the outline , the description and the curves i could see , looks like it will feel like a carver , draw some lines on some open face …

plenty of projection …

good stuff …

regards

BERT

Beautiful- love the integrated look of the fins and board.

I second what Bert says about the balsa fins. They look really nice! Can’t wait to here how it surfs. What glass schedule did you use?

thanks Bert, Dan,

the bottom has 4 under 4 over while the deck has 10 under and 6 with a 3/4 patch 4 over so should be bullet proof, just had a quick surf on it 3ft side shore cross wind ,not ideal but enough to give an impression , felt ok float felt good only had a couple that peeled off but didnt feel any different to anything else so thats a good start,

the fins were real easy to make , the triangular pieces are high density 5mm wood and the flat sides are 2mm, i used 6 oz cloth to join the two pieces together then cut out the fin shape , i thinned the fin slightly by sanding the 5mm side down to about 6mm then foiled by hand , two 6 oz layers of cloth either side and some strands around the outside and thats it , they weighed about 30 something grams each ready to glass on , pete

Pete, I’m loving your work. Did you lap the deck skin over the rails, shaping them first then adding the skin, or did you skin both sides then add & shape the rails? Put up a shot of the outline & the deck, if you would…

What did you gloss with?

Hey now,

I come here to talk surfboards not to be surprised by fine art!

Wow Pete, your craftmanship is first rate.

Im jealous.

Nice board, and good to hear it’s for you.

I’d like to know core wheight and thickness of skins if you don’t mind.

Jimmy yoshio shibata.

pete

that looks great

can you show me your curves

That looks perfect. I love the nose block too, nice contrasting color! That’s fine art!

Wow Pete…stunning…what did it weigh in the end? Should be some decent surf to test it this week if you can get to those sheltered spots b4 dark!

Beautiful board Pete, great workmanship. You will have plenty of swell for the next week in which to test it.

Yeah Pete it’s pretty special…

I enjoy the nose block, had something similar in mind for tidying up the join when the point cuts dont quite line up…

You remind us pro’s to stay on our toes!

Cornish class.

Are you anywhere near a town called Porthleven?

I scored waves there one time, small but nice righthander peeling off with a classic fishing village as a backdrop.

I was travelling with my Mother, a big cramp on my style, but I knew of the place because of footage from a seventies surf movie I forgot the name of, featuring “Tigger” Newling… ( Anybody remember the title?)

Speedneedle

Maybe one of Rodney SUMPTER’s films?

hello, Benny, i shaped the rails just to fit the curve of the deck foam then vac on the outer skin, then shape the deck and rails as one , i tried laminating the deck skin first but it came out with air again so i turned it over and used it on the inside instead ,

i have been using 2 pac as a gloss, i sprayed the first one in the garden and had flies and other thing set in the gloss, i tried brushing it on but in the end i have found by using the edge of a thin piece of foam or sponge you can get it quite smooth, just pour it on in the area you want then flow it out with the foam, it needs sanding at the end but you can get it quite smooth first,

the board came out at 7 1/2 lb i could have got it down to 6 1/2 easily but we get a lot of lumpy waves so a bit of weight is ok,

yoshio, i used 2.2mm for the deck and the bottom with 3 bands of 5mm for the rails, i post cure for the recommended time in an oven we have at the place where i work,

Silverback, i think the swell is going to be huge this week but there is/nt that many places to surf on a westerly wind , there may be enough swell to wrap around the south coast of cornwall , hopefully,

speedneedle, porthleven is on the cornish southcoast about 40 miles from where i live ,i have surfed it when i was younger and my both sons surf there when it is on , it is a good wave and you were lucky to catch it ,it doesnt break that often really , there is an invitational competition on at the moment when the swell is over 6ft it will be run and so far it has/nt got that size over the winter,

a few more pics of the outline and rocker and foil, pete

oops, pete

masterful work mate. i especially love the seamless blend from fins to board. thanks for sharing.

I like uniform skin/fin look too - real nice. How do the fins compare in stiffness/flex to any of the removables on the market?
