Atlas Woods Surfboard

Hello list…I tried to post this response to an earlier query but was informed that I was not authorised, so I am starting  a new post.

I worked for Atlas Woods in 1965. I had left Brookvale a few weeks earlier (after working with the major companies there for a few years (Scott Dillon, Wallace, Dale…) and was en route to California from Sydney, where Hobie Alter (by way of Bruce Brown ) had arranged a Green Card for me to work in US.

Atlas Woods was the main NZ surfboard company at the time and had an office/factory at the bottom of Auckland’s main street, near the harbour. It was managed and owned by the Mitchell family ( two guys and a girl who surfed and skied, and a father who arrived at work every morning in his silver Aston Martin). Great people, and I spent a lot of time with them during my stay in NZ.

I was the pinliner/glosser, and to this day they were the only company I have worked with who actually kept the Acetone drum in a concrete bunker for safety…

Thanks for the memories…

Thank you for the information. You should be OK to post on the other thread.
