Attention all Southern California - Los Angeles type area surfers and shapers

Hey guys,

Ive been here for a bit and kind of relied on my (now ex) gf to introduce me to surfers. But a kinda bad break up last night kinda left me thinking.

I havent touched a blank since Ive been on this side of the country really, and Ive been out in the water minimal times - compared to what I normally did. I cant really seem to meet people - and - as desperate as this seems - I was wondering if anyone on these boards consitently surf around this area. It just seems everyone is from the San Diego or more north than LA area. Maybe some people in South Bay or manhatten? I dunno. But if anyone wants an extra surfing partner or whatever, I’d love to get together with someone. Surfing alone just is starting to get boring.

Like I said - I think I became to reliant on a gf - which is something I shouldnt have done. But yeah…I’m just feeling kinda down and couldnt think of another thing to suggest.

Aloha

Bryan----- I don’t know how old you are or whether you are a short or longboarder, but you might go down to one of the local shops and hang-out a bit. Since I longboard primarily , I’d start at Just longboards. I think it is on aviation. I don’t live in LA and have no plans to do so. I have worked down there though and the guys at that shop were friendly and have that whole South Bay scene wired. There’s a regular surf shop next door to JL. I wouldn’t spend a winter down there without surfing Haggertys. McDing

Do it the old-fashioned way.

Surf, talk to guys out in the surf, talk to guys in the parking lot.

Pass out free beer!

My (ex) gf took me to Just Longboards and I looked around there and almost got a Bing before I decided to get my Becker I’m currently riding.

I longboard and shortboard - and tend to think I’m not to shabby at either. Ive talked to a few people in the water, but mostly it seems real hush hush and no one seems to want to talk or what not if they dont know anyone =\ So yeah…I dunno.

Aloha

Hal’s right. The old fashioned way is best. I know in the Islands beer and poke` will go a long way. But there ain’t much Aloha in LA. Keep tryin’ dude soon or later one a those stuck-up LA types will warm-up to you . McDing

Hey Grian,

I lived in the LA area as a child(south central) and again as an adult when my wife was in med school. About 13 million people and a pretty lonely place. It’s a good place to find work and that’s about it. Everyone is movin so fast trying to make a living or spending 3 to 4 hours on the freeway people have a hard time getting to know each other. Not to mention the pollution. I’ve followed your thread before you moved out here. Never understand why anyone would chose to move there if there was’nt going to be a sig payoff in the end. SD is a nice place if you need a big city to live and work. Lots of women. Surfers are clannish no matter where you go and it takes lots of time to break in. I’ve been on the central coast now for eight years. The hard core guys who used to scowl at me give me a nod now. Thats progress. Sorry about your woman. THe song goes something like this," soon as I kiss the lips of another woman I’m gonna forget about you." If you come up to the central coast let me know. I’ll surf with anyone. Mike

surf the same place eery day until you change your I.D. to somthing other than " that guy "…being sylvia’s old boy friend works ok until sylvia says …that guy?..you can become the over the falls guy or at least straight off adolf or hundreds of other i.d.'s that you can eventually grow out of once you convince others at that spot close to home that you are a positive component and not a serial criminal waiting to get an oppertunity to turn into a nightmare…, Night mare a great I. D. by the way asigned to a guy that eventually became fire chief at the hanalei fire station oh yea rescue a cat or volenteer to clean up or join the surfrider chapter or a church surf club or paint out grafitti that looks stink…down through history the most relevant contributions have been made by outsiders trying harder to make a positive change at a new relocation …try consider Tom Blake,Yater, Peter Cole,Fred Van Dyke…and on and on …ambrose…build your empire on good works and your life on positive relationships, start with a new girlfriend…or a new friend just to talk to…take sodas to the beach maybe you wont assemble a circle of drunks…of maybe cook some chicken that smells really good after inviting some familars in the water…get a job takin kids to the beach…take a red cross advanced swim class or life guard test
