Australia fires

I know we have a lot of fellow shapers on here from Australia, really a lot, so I wanted to take a minute to extend my condolences to anybody whose lives are being affected by the wildfires in Australia.

I don’t know if there’s much anybody can do to help at this point, and while I can’t speak for everybody, if there’s anything that can be done to help, give a holler. I would think that goes for any fellow Swaylockians though. Especially the Californians who are all too familiar with this kind of disaster.

Just heard on the morning news, ‘’…more than 130 dead, in Austrailian fires.‘’ Truely a disaster of epic scale.

The death toll now stands at 166. My parents lost their house, and we heard from a friend who’s housmate has lost his entire immediate family. I think there’ll be very few Victorians who are un touched by this disaster.

The best contribution anyone can make at this stage is to donate through the redcross - www.redcross.org.au

The money goes directly to the victims to help them with interim support in buying clothes, food, etc.

It truly is horrifying to hear some of the stories. Dozens of people burnt to death in their cars trying to outrun the fire.

With 45 degree plus temperatures and 100km/h winds they didnt stand a chance of fighting it or defending their homes.

I heard one expert say that the radiant heat in one fire would have knocked anyone unconscious instantly that was within 200m of the flames.

The worst tragedy in Australia’s peacetime crisis.

We have the opposite up north . floods. cyclone. not as harsh as fire . condolences to everyone

“AUSTRALIA has been singled out as a target for “forest jihad” by a
group of Islamic extremists urging Muslims to deliberately light
bushfires as a weapon of terror.”

Here’s a link to some before and after shots of my parents’ place which got wiped out in the fire on Saturday (the before shots are at the bottom). My Dad was an avid mountain biker. If you scroll down about halfway, there’s some pictures of whats left of a $5000 bike. The aluminuim parts of the bike are melted like plastic!

Idler,

Thankyou for sharing such dramatic personal images with us.

The before and after contrast just says it all. Glad parents survived.

Made my donation to the appeal and hope some of it can help your parents.

Not much can be said…powers that we can’t comprehend, took control.

I guess you won’t be as idle in the future, re-building.

Best wishes,

Rocky

Thanks heaps Rocky,

The support from everybody has been amazing! It always blows my mind how people rally around when stuff like this happens!

My parents were well insured, but there are thousands of people who weren’t, so all the donations will definitely be appreciated.

Cheers,

BJ.

Idler,

Impossible to insure for SOUL and your parents place appeared( from your ‘before’ pics ) to have that quality.

You have made a really valuable contribution to the appeal, if not for the fact that you have personalized it on Sways, the images yo posted show the paradigm shift. Green to black, life to death.

To me, that impact is powerful, and I hope all Sways clan can see it in their hearts to contribute an appropriate amount to help re-build a community that is soooo aligned with our culture.

The Red Cross web address is listed above. ONE $US = approx $1.60 Aussie $…So give 10 bucks, it will make a Sways difference.

It’s gotten around 180 now :frowning:

It’s like watching a horror movie… But it’s only a couple hour’s drive from my mum’s place.
