While I was thinking about the dimensions etc of the board I was about to shape, I was trying to think of a way to get consistent curves and dimensions as I don’t have any templates. Here is what I came up with. Drawing out the outline etc in full scale in autocad then going to Kinko’s and having it printed out. Then I just traced the outline onto the blank after cutting it out and there we go. I measured up and drew the outline of the LokBox box as well since I don’t have the jig or anything so I could accurately cut that out too without having to guess or try and trace the box itself onto the blank. I’m not done shaping but it seems to have worked real well so far. After doing the initial shaping I threw the paper back onto the blank to make sure I am keeping everything symmetrical etc. It has made the task much easier; especially for a first time shaper.
maybe your’re trying too hard
I’ve use scales, rulers and calipers in the past, but mostly now just eyeball it.
No two waves are the same, we are mostly right- or left-handed, so we don’t surf the same way on rights nad lefts. (This is a substantial argument for asymmetric boards, but who uses them…?)
good for you if Acad helps you shape. Have you tried the (free download) APS 3000? I may use it yet if I can get time to doodle around with it. But I’m too busy noodling around here on Sways.
