Back fiberglass?

Im looking on fiberglass supply.com at their clearence section on the glass. Has anyone
Used black fiberglass? And what does it mean in terms of glassin when they say a fabric is more stiff? Does it mean a more difficult job?
I’m trying to keep costs down on my projects. 4 oz glass up in Canada is a damned 10$ a yard!!

The only black glass I see in the clearance section has a 125 yd minimum. Did you catch that?

There’s some E glass listed at 2.00/yd, but they don’t list the weight

Stiffer fabric means it’s harder to wrap around rails, noses, corners, tails. It can be used on a board but you will have to employ more care in laminating. I would avoid if you haven’t glassed many boards.

Totally glanced right over that! That 2$/yd sounds good but my sup is 28" wide and 4.5" thick. I doubt a 30" cloth would work… Or could it? Would I have to lay a 3" strip from nose to tail if both the bottom and top lam wouldn’t overlap?

I have a roll of black glass, and it is stiffer than,…  I use it only to build up fin panels and for that it works great, it looks like carbon fiber to the untrained eye, and it is used as an underlayment where you want the look of cf without the price.  Composites companies will use carbon on the visual layers, and that stuff underneath.  It doesn’t wrap very well at all and the resin doesn’t absorb very well into it either.  It all about price and it makes great fin panels especially when used with rohacell- totally bitchen.  i have been using the same roll for years, and if you get it for a good price I say do it.
