Hello swaylockers,
After finishing a couple of boards for myself and a mate, it’s time to annoy the neighbours again and start a new project but I need some advice from you all please as you’ve always been very helpful in the past.
I want to do a couple of 6’3" daily drivers with a bit more of a HP feel to 'em. They need to go well in a variety of conditions as the breaks we surf are quite different but all beachies.
My question is about where my rocker should peak. I’ve done a search but haven’t found that much on it. If you know a link that works let me know and I’ll jump straight to that and not do your heads in.
I’ve always left the peak of my rocker at centre but it got me thinking about moving it back this time. I think I get what it does, allows you to keep your feet more in the same position and not walk up the board when you want to get some speed or have to move back when doing a turn…???
I’ve measured my stance and my feet are about 21" apart. The plan was to move it back 6" from centre to 32" from tail, my front foot will sit about 1" infront of this point. Is it worth it?
What are the drawbacks to doing this on this type of board? If I do move it back it will have a longer entry but will have an acceleration of the curve towards the tail, theoretically good for tight turns but slow the board down because of it right??? Not so good for weaker mushier surf???
I’m a bit confused and really just wanted to know a bit about the ins and outs of it all, how it affects ride, paddling, turning etc.
As always, it’s not about just one single feature but rather the collective… I’m very tempted to just do it and see how it surfs but the price of a blank including the shipping, €90, puts me off rather quickly!! We both surf off the back foot if that’s any help.
I’ve taken two screen shots of my rough design (saved as word docs) from shape3D and attached them for you to have a look at.
Please let me know what you think, all advice is very welcome!! Sorry for being so long winded and thanks in advance.
