backpad question..

hi,

just bought a makita sander/polisher and i want to order a flexpad for it.

I already have 5" hard and 5" soft ones.

I’m planning on another two ( hard and soft) but with larger diameter.

what’s the best …7" or 8" ? why? ( i’m working only with epoxy and not planning on doing any glassons)

Hi Lee,

I use a 6" hard pad for the fin plugs or boxes and an 8" soft pad for the rest.

My thinking is more surface area less time sanding.

If you use the bigger pads for the fin plugs even the hard pads will bend and wrap over the plug and if you’re not careful sand right through to the foam.

I always finish with a medium pad on a 6" random orbital.
