Backyard hotwire trick

gravity assist

Slick.

Awesome G, something for those days friend- or family-member assist is not available.

Your bow is super clean. Power wires and tensioning inside? Are those guide wheels?

yep, yep, also an on/off swich on handle. profiles have spacers attached to allow guide wheels to slide

also pvc itself acts as a tensioner since i install a wire shorter than the gap

i go at the deck rocker horizontal - gravity helps keep the wire following the concave shape, then pull it up vertical to do the bottom rocker, only a slight pull keeps the wire following the convex curve while gravity pulls down.

none of this is novel from me - learned from sways and other backyard buddies

love that.  very clever. thanks for posting.

all the best

Who nice dude, that will cut a lot off boards !

Do you have sime pictures of the power source ?

power source is from an extention cord through this voltage regulator

Nice idea.

What do you do when you change over from pull down/out to pull out?

How do you prevent the pause that burns a hole?

I use a lab power supply like the one below (300W => 10A @ 30V)

These are great since you can set the current exactly as you need it.

Therefore, there is no need to recalibrate when you change the wire length.

So these are even better than the variacs.

I used a transformer + and a fan dimmer switch for a power supply.  cost about 40 bucks for the power supply all in. variacs are pretty pricey Works a treat. A bit of thought had to go into what transformer to buy,  but I just got a biggun and can dim it down as needed.

I like the gravity assist. way smarter way to do it.

red boards - no pausing once i start cutting until wire comes out of the foam

the template is not as long as the block so i can just pull the wire right out at the end of the template

I always add a flat to the end of the block. I dial the temp down a bit so I don’t burn holes too easily, but cutting is slower. Impatience sometimes gets the better of me.

I’ll try it your way next time. Thanks.

What a trick! What a show! Thanks

done that for awhile. saw it on some video couple of years ago.

makes it easier. and cleaner without your jerky movements

+1.  Well done!

I have a new one to add to this, I cut my blanks from a 16’ block so can’t stand it up and wanted a nice consistent pull so came up with a simple rig that help a huge amount! I will modify this now and have the weigh running inside the pipe and improve the rigging
