Bad Gloss Resin ???

Good Day All,

Got a pretty basic question but had luck in the archives for the answer. Here it is, What color should gloss resin be? Mine is about 6 months old and looks to have a yellowish tint, could this have gone bad?

Thanks

Hi Nebs

Not sure if its bad, the gloss resin I use has a very faint purple tinge when in mass, spread out its clear.

Once I had some waxy in styrine go bad, that went yellow, then turned in to a hard brown lump. I think it was the styrine that when off, if your gloss mix is thinned down with styrine that could be the cause.

If the colour has changed over time sounds like it is going bad, they do have a limited shelf life, but this will vary depending on the storage conditions. storing it in a hot humid environment or in direct sunlight will speed this up. do some tests and if in doubt don’t use it.

Howzit nebuluos, Shine a light into the resin and see if there’s white gunk in the bottom, this is one way to tell if the gloss resin is gone bad. But when it goes bad the problem is it takes a long time to go off. What I do is add some lam resin to it and this will make it kick off a lot faster.Aloha,Kokua

Kokua,

Thanks for the reply, I didn’t use the light method but I did find your post in the archives about adding the lam resin. All went fine.
