Looks great. Love the patterns you have made with your balsa and Agave on the deck. I’m interseted in making nose/tail blocks so save some agave scraps for me. See you at the next Swaylock’s event.
Looks great man! Love the logo too, if you threw in a whiskey bottle and an anchor with that compass rose and a drunken night in a foreign port, you’d have my tatoo. The board looks great. keep it up.
The board weighs 10 lbs, and yes I ordered the squid from Roy. I have not been able to take it out yet because I got sick the day I finished it, and today it’s raining…so no word yet on the fin.
I milled the agave my self. Some stocks are 100% dry when I cut them down, and the wetest (green) stocks I dried for about 8-9 months in my garage. Frost dose not carry Agave, but I have a friend who has a friend who makes a little side cash selling milled agave. If you PM me I can get you the #.
The bigest prolblem with the agave rails was that some strips were as hard as oak, while others were as soft as soap bubbles : ) making it difficult to use hand planes.
the past week i’ve been surfing 3-5’ waves with the solo tunnel fin and came up with some interesting results.
First off, the board is super loose and the controll is pretty good untill I go for a bottom turn on a large wave where the board slides out from under my feet. On smaller waves I was having a lot of fun with this because I was able to do skateboard like powerslides on a wave. I have been told that this was a bad thing, but I was having fun with it.
Today I caught a nice 4 foot wave which died out and rebroke about 3 times. it seems this board has a unique charistic of being very drivy, yet preforms well in mush. Overall I’m happy with the results. Although, I am planing to put a single as Roy suggested in front of the tunnel to make my turns more positive.
The bad news is I have lost my shaping bay once again…So how much for a snork fin Roy?
Glad to hear that you are having fun with it, we can make you a snork fin, will talk on the Pm.
Went out to give the Squidtail another test ride in some cyclone swell which didn’t really line up right due to two conflicting swells, anyway after wave two
( http://www.olosurfer.com/Cyclone arthure.wmv ) I noticed that both side fins had broken off, looks like they will have to be built stronger, got a gps
reading though. The next day I hacked the Snork fin out ofd the Resolute Salmon which is being overhauled and parked it in the Squidtail, making it now a snorkfinned thrusterbuster. The swell turned gutless but we got a few anyway
