i have read posts on this subject that have been posted in the past. i have been hoping to get a board for the last year but now i am starting to think twice from the posts i have read here. i have had no luck getting a hold of Bamboosurfboards.com and i have sent numerous email over the last year. the US contact phone number that is listed on there website is no good. i am putting out a post here to see if anyone knows anything more about the company and the boards. does anyone own a board or know someone who does, are they worth this trouble? i just want more information so i don’t make a decision that i will regret later. thanks.
Hey Climbdog,
I’m not too sure where you are but I tried to contact the Head Office in Byron Bay and the line’s engaged. I’ll try on and off today for you. Send me a PM with contact email and I’ll get them to contact you.
From what I’ve heard their boards are pretty good, worth persuing.

Just spoke to Jenny at HO and she said there are no new boards available at the present time. The Directors are in the US at the moment. She said that production has stopped and guessed that they might be back into it in a month.
Sounds like you should go elsewhere for fear that you might loose your $$$
Try Bert Burger, the wait is worth it.
Hope this helps.

Bamboo boards - very good idea — I ordered one expecting a super light weight and responsive board.
What I actually got was a very heavy (much heavier than my standard 6 oz job) but pretty board. The board is extremely stiff and I just couldn’t get along with it…
On the plus points – it is very very very strong and would make for a great travel board. In my opinion - the extra cost just ain’t worth it - why, after all didn’t sunny garcia ever ride one in a contest?
Aloha, I own a wall hanger Hamilton, Young, Rodgers bro’s bamboo! Beautiful!!
Right now I fixing a tail ding for " Bamboo Works" here on Kauai. Julian the owner has at least two fun shapes hanging in his shop for sale 800 dollars! To add to your quiver I would have to say they are worth it! His # is 808-632-0533 These are the real Gary Young Lam deals.
Have a great surf ! Clyde Rodgers
hey clyde–
are you talking about the oz boards or another type made in hawaii?
what’s the weight like?
Gary’s making bamboo outrigger paddles these days just a few miles down the road from me. Dunno if he’s made any surfboards recently. That Groundswell article is pretty good. I’ve only gotten the chance to talk to Gary once, on the phone. Was looking to return one of his paddles that somebody had left on the beach. Seemed like a really nice guy.
do you know if Gary’s email address is the same now as it was in that article? and if not does anyone have an email address to contact him? thanks
From Pacific Paddler magazine…
Aloha, Hawaii made! Looks like the following letters have given you more info on Gary… I think the guy may be very busy and hard to reach but if can, He does insane work… The boards that I mentioned hanging in Bamboo Works have pretty much the same weight that any glass 8’ funshape might have, the difference is the board is very hard! but very beautiful. Julian at Bamboo Works would probably send you a pick…
Maybe suftec makes a light bamboo board ??
Good luck! Clyde Rodgers
