Barnfield Oregon Era board

To all:

Here are pics of one of Bill Barnfield’s Oregon Era boards.

The logo is Evergreen. If my recall is correct, Evergreen boards were shaped by either Lanny Shuler or BB. This one is #38 BB.

This was my last board. Not sure when it was shaped. Maybe 1972?

Anyway, I never logged much time on it. I took it out at The Seaside Point on an 8-10 foot day in the fall. The swell had lots of north, and waves were hard to make. I lost the board when the bungee leash (fortunately?) pulled off my ankle, and the 7’-10” board was hammered on the rocks.

Thanks for sharing! very nice, i love single fins and i particularly like photo 3 of the bottom. inspiring to fix my single fin again.

Saw the Bing restoration thread and wondered about my Barnfield. I don’t mean to high-jack the Bing thread, but figured that since pics were already posted that it would be easier. My apolgies to Ross Bushnell.

BB, if you can get a sense from these pics, what’s your guess as to $$?

Aloha John

Your board looks in good condition. Dents are hard to see but it doesn’t look real bad. Clear boards though are harder to restore as there is no color to use to cover up stuff. It is hard to match up that particular shade of aged brown foam and dings! Ha!

General price for a restore on a short board (non tanker) is about $600.00. So it is only worth doing on collectable boards or ones that have a high personal value. Otherwise, the restoration price is too close to a new board to make it worth.

Hope all is well John. When does the racing season start for you or has it already?

Hey that is a lovely board…Credit to Bill.

I’ve done resto’s where I have tried desperately to convince the customer to order a new replica for less!!!

But if its truly a great board, theres a satisfaction in it. I wish I had some before/after shots.

Your board does’nt look like there would be any underlying rotten nightmares, like when fixed a million dings on a bottom, fully polished it, then removed wax to find deck was delammed ander the feet! I would be wary of quoting until I had seen it in-the-flesh…

Thanks BB:

Well the board indeed has personal value. The $600 is about what I’d guessed.

Racing is underway. We tested last Saturday.

Will keep in touch; and talk to Kay about a restoration for birthday present. He He He!

Thanks, Josh

Nice shape and artwork. I like the way outer space fades into light. Does that (art) take a long time?

John,

You’ve gone blown my show-offy pic out of the water with the Sunset action shot!

Anyway, yes that artwork took the better part of a day. Sometimes the artwork takes more time than the rest of the processes to make a board. The first time a guy ordered a plain board from me in my “Speedneedle” incarnation, I was so shocked, yet relieved…

Josh

John,

No worries about the thread-usurping. Glad to see that people are still talking about restorations, I was wondering where they went! Hopefully I’ll be able to start my bing restoration soon.

Yep, the more I think about restoring this board (it’s hanging on the wall now) the more I want to have it restored.

Will keep you posted.

Hi John - Maybe on another thread you could expand on your photography. Those photos that you have been divying out are excellent.

Keep the Barnfield original. That’s my call
