Bars of soap from your LaBoardAtory - Post your mini simmons pics!

Anyone have any ride reports?  I’ve ridden mine twice and I have to say, I’ve fallen in love.  They were waist -high mushy days but the board just takes-off the peak like a rocket and the big keels keep it drivey and fast for down the line pumping, yet the lack of center fin makes it apparantly loose for quick direction changes, and even small foam climbs (would-be floaters if the wave was steeper) yield so much speed it’s unbeleivable.   I’d like to see how big of waves I can ride it in before it becomes too sketchy, but as of now, this is the only board I want to ride when it otherwise looks only longboardable.

That looks fun, nice finish.

Finally finished sanding this one…

My first attempt at a mini. Not an exact copy just my attempt.

It is a 6’0" X 22-1/2 X 3 (I’m 6’4" 200 LBS in a 5/4MM hooded fullsuit.)

" I realized later I should have used a bigger blank because I was not able to get the width I wanted in the nose from a 6’2" fish blank and I was not totally stoked on the outline. (Too much curve) But anyway I’ll give it a go and see how it rides. Although I was happy with the spray and color job I did. I taped the flames and sprayed the yellow first then did a light yellow pigment in the glass job to get the somewhat ghost flames. I’m happy with how it turned out and will try this again with some other designs.

Just finished my second, its a bit more simster inspired, narrower and has an S-deck and three fins , i will post some other pics once I get comparative ones done,

Billywillgo, I also ended up narrower than I wanted with my second at around 19 3/4" , the blank had the perfect rocker but ended up a not fitting a wide outline in it…

All Mini-Simmons experts,

What is the benefit of having a concave between the fins? Is this purely to maximise lift and planing? Is ther a downside to this set-up?

Loving the designs on this thread and am in the process of planning my own mini-simmons so thought i best get an understanding of the design features.

Thanks

nocean, what is the length on that one?

I like that one Nocean, very simister inspired like you said but looks very sweet indeed......been doin plenty of research myself as I have several customers keen on this type of shape atm, and me, I am keen to have a crack on em, right up my alley .....

Hi,

The one above is 5’9" x 19 3/4" x 2 7/8", Id like it to be wider like 21" but hope it still goes good, slight single concave bottom.

Cheers Pridemore ,i have decided to go with a thruster setup, but will ride it with two large side fins like twin fins with a small center , hope to ride it in the next few days so let ya all know how it goes…

oh where to begin…

I'm starting another one and still making adjustments here and there.

Steve

been following this thread and theres too many nice looking boards here, so now I have been inspired to make some myself, its new territory for me which I love.....yet to ride one but cant wait, and actually have a good customer mate who is getting one, we have been goin thru every part of his design and I am goin to get to ride it, then learn and make more.....they look like they'll be around the waves more this summer, should be good to see even more variety in the line-up......

whats happen Steve I toe da fins 1/4", 2" up from da tail & 1 1/2" from da rail with a 2 degree cant

Thanks man, I'll give it a shot

Not a true bar of soap I guess but it has a bit of the Palmolive Gold about it.

It makes things fun at 51.

Cheers

hey guys just curious of the tail vs nose dims. Wanna do a 6’0 x23x2 7/8th’s what do you think? Should they match i.e. 19 nose 19 tail or should the tail stay wide?

[img_assist|nid=1054512|title=Mini Sim|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=75|height=100]Just finished this yesterday. 5’7-22 3/4"-3", scooped front 1/3 of deck, very hullish with belly/roll in the nose but with big single concave running out between the fins. Fins are both cutaway keels. Cant wait to ride her at a secret little point up this way!
