Hello,
My name is François. It's my first comment on swaylock's.It has been three years since I look of swaylock's with a lot of interest.
I live in France. I present you my last surf board "La Petite Simone".

6'x23"x3"
Goodbye.
bonjour monseiur , welcome to swaylocks mon pote !!
that is a nice board !!
'tjrm63' ,
cheers for the fin shots !!
the orange ...was it a spray , a tint job , or a pigment , please ?
'dustymoon' ,
welcome to swaylocks , mate !! enjoy it eh ?
in answer to your earlier question .... you may need to be a very strong paddler , in order to catch waves on one of these boards [compared with paddling a 9' mal] ,but by all means try to get your hands on one , and let us know how you go with it , eh ? .... it's always good to try different boards , to get an idea what they do , and if they can work for you....
cheers guys !!
ben
Please keep the 'mini-simmons' photos coming , I LOVE a good PHOTO thread !! [as you may have noticed over the years , eh ?!]
You buggers have pushed me over the edge, I am going to shape my first mini simmons because of all these sweet little sleds, especially like the orange one, almost a nice mandarin colour...that reminds me of a joke, " whats better than licking a mandarin ?"
- licking Amanda ( maybe its offensive to som ehere so better not...nice boards though.....
Thank you for the compliment chipfins!
A bientôt,
François
The color is apricot on the blue one the pic doesn't capture it well. Ben I sprayed both boards with this type of paint from Wal Mart, this is the color I used on the orange board which came out really nice.

Here is mine: it’s EPS from blocks of packing material, stringer from a bookcase, with RR epoxy. 6’ x 24" x 3", ProBox fins (thanks Larry!). I took it to Spain for the summer where I initially struggled, eventually learned and had a great time since. I hadn’t ridden anything shorter than 8’4" in many years. I brought it back to Boston where I continue to ride it and find it works better here than in the steeper waves of Playa Zurriola. I have a long list of changes for the next one, most prominently better distribution of foam in the s-deck, rounder nose and slightly more narrow tail. These pics were taken in the parking lot in Guethary, a great surf spot in France where I had a lot of fun and met some nice people
keep 'em coming , lads !!
can someone [?Marke, perhaps?] please tell me ...
What size are those 'half-moon' shaped fins you use ? mine are smallish ...6-7" base x 4 1/4" deep ...yours look deeper than that , yes ?
cheers
ben
today I used my 'half-moons' in the Walden , and added a fibreglass back fin [thruster sized...it seemed to hold the fat arsed tail in better this time .....]

pas problem , monsieur !!
by the way , how do you like the flax on the deck , does it feel stronger ?
did you also use flax on the bottom of the board ?
i have flax for some fin making soon too
salut !
monsieur le chipfins
This is my first shaping attempt, and althought its far from perfect I’m pretty damn happy with it!
The bottom contours ended up being a deep single to vee (with a weird bump where the single finishes and the vee starts, I call it the hump-back bottom). I expect it will cause drag, but we can only wait and see. The laminate coat ended up a mess, but I learned a lot about how to make the next one better.
I’ll just be super stoked if it endeds up mildly surfabe, and even more stoked if it surfs well
Nice flat rocker:
Outline with “character”:
The step-deck:
I will post pics soon 5’0 x 20.5 x 2.5 sdeck 18 tail. hull entry to single to spiral vee. Not shure where I should put the fins? I was going to go with keels but know thinking quads, Help! Putting in the boxes tommarow.
I just scored this nice little 5’4 Rake. 22’ wide and 7/8ths thick. Custom cedar fins hand-made by my mate Jason (Fellow S.C.A.B.S. founder). I’ve ridden it a couple of times…this thing just flies!!!
How much tail rocker are the guys at Rake putting into their Sims? Just curious, as I bumped into a guy with one yesterday and it looked awfully curvey.
Normally I do 0 in the tail with a single concave out the back.
They’re playing around with various curves and outlines. The one above is pretty standard. It’s very flat, slight hull to single concave. The pink and grey one I posted a couple of pages ago has a bit more curve, and a double concave under the back foot. Strangely enough, they both ride quite similarly!
That thing looks amazing. How do those fins feel? That pigment work is really impressive…
Interesting… Did you notice any slight reduction in drive, or a slight increase in responsiveness?
A question for everyone as well - I notice that a lot of mini-simmons have a belly single concave that starts somewhere back from the mid-point, starting quite deep and widening as it gets out near the rear fins. What is the effect or significance of using this type of single concave compared to a more standard blended single that spands the length of the board where it starts?
