Imho the mini -simm can be both faster and more manouvreable than a fish.
Here’s a good read…http://www.theswiftmovement.com/Catalogs/Hydrodynamica_Test_Pilots_2010_Brochue.pdf

I’m taking the bait on the mini simmons,I just cut the templates for a 5’5"x23"x3" with a 14" tail.I’m about to go cut my 2# eps blank.I would post up the pdf file but I don’t know how!
The bottom with a lil concave…
The outline…
jesus, that looks good .
I started mine today, was hoping to finish it today but my son kicked me out of the shaping bay so he could do some stuff...cant stop him when he is keen, I will finish mine tomorrow, some pics soon...5'3" x 21 " x 2 7/8" Flat deck, not quite sure of some of the extra stuff, depends on my mood, could end up anything...but stoked to shape this little one... Calling it the "dim-SIM" ...
Lookin forward to that!
came from some foam I had hanging around when I got the creative bug and couldnt stop it hahah, didnt want to either....
more curve than most by the looks but I really like the way its comin together, bit of foam to remove at tail obviously yet, just a shot to show rocker, why does rocker never look accurate in pics ??? it looks like it has much more than it really does, probably an inch ....
Nice pridmore, heres a few shots of mine shaped…
Here’s a bottom shot after glassing,a little concave…
I did a jagged cutlap on the deck and added a wavy pinline to cover it up,heres a shot of the deck with a fresh fill coat…
Hey Mike,
I’m good at sweeping generalisations.
Though I reckon sometimes the incremental approach can baffle the audience too much.
i’m no shaper however. Just a rider of various surfcraft.
Hi cuttlefish,
Generalizations can be useful, too( a generalization). And, I’m not a shaper, either. Just a guy goofing off in his garage building boards for my own amusement. I’m liking my minisimms with the keel fins. I’m looking forward to getting it into a bigger wave. I think the main difference between my other efforts was pulling the tail in, foiling the tail a bit more, and moving the fins up off the tail. Mike
How far up from the tail did you place your fins Mike?
looks like a bit of a step on the deck, I been sussing out how to do mine so I can get thickness distribution right, it is challenging and different to other shapes I do but enjoying the challenge...the flat rocker makes almost all production blanks no good for this shape, the popularit should see someone do a blank suitable here in Oz soon, like the fish did......sweet pinlines too, looks the goods...dont they look great when they're all wet and shiny, still dripping with resin, dont think they can ever look better than that.....
Thanks pridmore, this has been a fun shape for me no doubt. My first stepdeck, first concave, and my first cutlap.I used the auto pinline tape for the lines, fast and simple.I can’t wait to surf it and will give a ride report here when I do.I follow alot of the finless work you do and I really dig it.My next shape was going to be a finless until I found this thread and became inspired by all of the great work within.Later that day I found a mini simms file that I had worked on a while back for a guy that placed an order for a blank but never gave the go ahead to cut.I saw it as a sign and printed out the templates and cut the blank for myself instead ha!I’m still thinking of going finless with this one,I’ve thought about building a 1/2" tall “fin” that follows the contour of the rail starting 1/3 of the way down from the nose and let it flow out the tail.
do it...better not hijack this thread with finless stuff haha, maybe continue that thought on the thread called 'less fin'' ???
Wood and recycled eps foam, 5’6" x 22.875" x 2.75". Red and white wood stain color.

stoked with it, now to spray or not to spray ? old school clean line spray or bright and brash ??? fins ? cloth ? so many questions....
Spray it yellow with a big “Sunlight” written across it.
It’s a bar of soap after all.
If you use a leggie it’ll be soap on a rope.
Looking good Mark. Careful you may have someone buying it before you even get a chance to try it.
Hey Jesus,
I thought I posted this answer this morning. Anyway, The rear edges are 6 inches from the tip with the keels. Quite a bit further with the cut away keels. I won’t be putting the cut away keels on this board. The keels are much better. Mike
Thanks mike,I was going to put keels on mine as well,I was going to place them at 5 from the tail, using proboxes too so I’ll have some room to play.I may quad it out in the future to have more options.
