basting a board?

kokua fiberglass talks about basting a board or basting the rails to seal it good and get rid of pin holes. what is basting mean exactly?

Howzit JJ, basting is just laying down laminating resin before you hot coat. I do it to fill the low areas in the fiberglass weave,That way I don’t expose the weave when I sand the board. It probably would fill pin air from a dry lam but won’t help with pin air caused by to much resin since those air bubbles are sealed in the resin. Aloha, Kokua

heres how i do all the boards for the guy i work for. afterhe lams, i paint the rails and the nose on the deck with lam resin. after drying, i then turn the board bottom side up and paint the exposed cloth with hc resin and then turn it over and hotcoat the deck. after that hardens about 2-3hrs., i go and grind the bottom exposed cloth down and make the edges sharp where it needs to be. i tape off and then use a hard squeegee to sqeueeze some hc resin for a precaution for pinholes and hc the bottom. hope that helps. if not, sorry. have fun

thank you kokua and tentoes! this should help my boards out! i usually went straight to hotcoat after laminating the board. i appreciate it! JJ
