I am thinking of making a couple of beginner longboards for friends, and as a way to get into to board making hobby. I am going to design them for the mushy med speed waves at the Point in Ventura and Mando’s cove on the Rincon (a great beginner spot.) The reason I want to do beginner boards is that there is nobody selling them in the area, and I could even sell a less than perfect board for $300 here! My idea is a clark foam 9’4" in standard density, 6oz “S” cloth, and epoxy resin with a gloss coat of some type. I would like to paint the blank a single or two tone color. My focus would be a strong, stable, easy to ride, and great wave catching board, produced at a reasonable cost. Cost is not the primary concern, strength and ding resistance is. What are some recommendations for Blanks? I want to do minimal shaping. What is a good supplier for glass and resin? I have Fiberglass Hawaii about an hours drive away. are they resonable? Thanks in advance, Robert
9’1Y is a fav pretty easy to shape and yeilds a pretty full board. Fiberglass hawaii is pretty reasonable. http://www.surfboardglassing.com
