Less than ideal surface conditions are my bread and butter. What bottom contours (for a 6’6" 11 x 181/2 x 14 x 2 1/4 round-pin shortie) would YOU use for dependable performance (kinda boring, I know) in all surface conditions. I weigh 160lbs. and the stick is for 0-double overhead central coast Calif…
Think soft, nothing to catch or grab…no concaves, go flat or some v in nose and tail. You can tuck an edge beneath the rail from tip to tail but put a hint of a chine just inside the edge from the nose to your front foot.
flat bottoms for me in those conditions. predictable, but still loose enough to be fun. (i also agree on the “v”, won’t hurt if you like the feel of it) i also put in extra tail rocker, especially when you are not going to be riding it in less than head high waves.
hmm … not sure bout extra tail rocker, but V is good for ironing out chop - it will slow you down a tiny bit but it’ll help rail to rail transitions.
Either a panel or tri plane bottom. The later is much more responsive. A a convex hull type bottom works too but it’s more of a longboard thing although there are some midlength boards and retro eggs made this way. Good Surfin’, Rich
