Best Fin System for Multiple Setups?

What do you guys thing would be the best fin system (FCS, Lokbox, etc.)

to use when you are using different fin setups on your board. I ask

because I am getting a 2 plus 1 longboard that I may decide to surf as

a single on micro days. What do you think would be the best fin system

for leaving empty slots? Does the turbulence from the empty holes

significantly affect performance? I am guessing FCS would be best

simply because it seems to have the smallest footprint. Help? I looked

through the archives and couldn’t find anything.

Hi Scott, Thought you might like to see this set-up with Probox Finsystems. Mahalo

Sorry didn’t make photo 1st time. Mahalo

If your shaping your own board…which I heavily doubt?

The answer should be that you pick a fin box system that is popular

amongst longboarders. That pretty much rules out FCS,dont know about the others.

You should ask your shaper for his recommendations.

which probably should include a large center fin box of any various make.

As far as empty holes I wouldnt worry about that.

You could get a nasty disease or monthly payments for the next 18+ years

preoccupying yourself with those. Dont do it!

I guess Im saying dont thrusther.

Scotty:

Just my 2c but I think you need to decide what you are going to

be using the boxes for. I have used FCS, Futures & Lokbox on longboards

and each has its pluses. None of them made a difference in board speed

when unfilled/filled. I like the drive I get off of a fixed base fin so I have

a few with futures for surfing local beach breaks. My longboards for surfing

shallow reefs have all lokboxes as their design is the best I have seen for protecting

the board from side fin impacts. Futures sustain major board damage from

a side impact. I just don’t like the FCS set-up at all, but that is just my

opinion of it. I just like a solid base on the side fins. If you are doing the

installations yourself, cant is way more important that the drag of an open

box IMHO.

Sorry Scottp, I just realized that my photo didn’t show the insert plug very well that Probox has to fill the fin slot which you were worried about.

In adddition, these insert plugs are light weight and float. Mahalo

I would think that should answer your question. I do not know of any other fin systems that offer the ability to plug your unused boxes. Nice touch

Christian

Hi Surfteach, You are right that cant is important! I like that Probox offer’s adjustable cant like my friends Twinzer,Fish, Quad combo board has here in this photo.
