I have a Terry Chung that is by far the best longboard I have ever ridden, it does what ever you want it to plus it is so fast it is scary. PS surfboards are also very good since he has a lot of knowledge as far as what a progressive LB should be. Got one just before the cancer thing hppened and haven't gotten to try it but since I glssed his boards for years I could see that they would work and saw them all the time in the water ripping. There are several shapers in Santa Cruz that build super high performance longboards.
Longboarding styles differ greatly so picking your shaper is very important.
A fin or fin set up to compliment the board and the conditions you’ll be riding are of equal considerations.
There is no on high performance longboard that will suit all conditions and all surfers.
I’m fortunate enough to have a quiver great longboards that are very different from each other and as a result I key them to different conditions.
For a single fin longboard I’d have to say the 9’10" Hap Jacobs is the king.as an all arounder
For big waves the Michel Junod 9’5" 2+1 or the Source 9’3" “Twonger” is the call. The Twonger has a wider tail so it does better in small waves than the Junod. the boards perform very different but both do grand in larger surf.
For little waves the Source9’6" “Heels Over” single is a dream because it turns very easily and seems to make more speed the further you step out on the nose.
The ulitimate longboard is the one that suits the way you surf and the conditions you’re in.
There are lots of choices, pickin’ one aint easy.

hands down best hp long boards out there are shaped by jon b mar i think he has a website shapes out of hawaii
Based on your comment, I just checked out the Jacobs line. Which current model is most like the one you are so keen on? "mike purpus" and "new shape" look pretty nice.
The board I have is a double stringer 9’10" round pin traditional nose rider. The board surfs well in a wide variety of condtions and for a fairly heavy single fin (it’s Volan glassed) it is amazingly manueverable. It turns very well and will stand the test of the most devoted traditionalist. It also goes very well in critical steap overhead waves. Sharks cove here in Santa Cruz has a reputation for a very step racey down the line point wave. I have some very memorable rides on my Hap there.
I think the round pin tail is the best choice if you want a great all around performance single fin long board.
If you’d like to see some photos of the one I have just shoot me an Email at halcyoncustomfins@hotmail.com

There are a ton of folks that do a great HPLB.
Just to list a few of the main aspects (that are obvious) that make a good HPLB
-Tighter tail
-Little more nose rocker
-Thinner foil espicially up front
-Little less rail (70/30 for example)
Its not just pulling in a existing design (again proably thats obvious)
Personally I’m really like the Rusty Utlity at this time…Its my favorite.
