best way to repair a plastic board

I have to fix a NSP ...what material will be the best

Is there a cut in it? Looks like you can see a bigger one in the second pic, but not sure.

If it’s only the small outer hull, just leave it that’s only colour. If not sand it a bit down (the real shell is quite thick) and laminate with epoxy. If you don’t repaint it you will easily see the repair. Don’t know if it matters for you

Yes the line in the middle is a small cut , I was going to sand it and use epoxy but I wondered if I could use something more like paste.. car bondo... plastic filler or gel coat because I will have to paint the patch anyway ...thanks Parick    and sorry for double post!

From what I have read the outer coat is just paint and does not repair well.  I have also read that some people use hot glue on the dings so as to muss the paint less.  Looks like the rail of every chinese made SUP on the market after a year of use…Good luck, keep us posted even if it’s ugly.

I did a GSI board repair awhile back, it looks similar.  Brittle epoxy layer, painted.  I myself would fix with 4 oz. cloth and epoxy resin over rough-sanded surface, paint with epoxy appliance spray paint.  Probably ought to test to make sure the epoxy resin will bond.

BIC boards can be repaired with hotglue, but I never heard about a NSP getting hotglued. I repaired a NSP once with normal 6 oz and 5 minute epoxy, so not the best components, but it went ok, apart from being ugly. No bonding issues even a year after.

NSP’s are epoxy boards, not injection molded plastic like BIC’s.  Use epoxy based materials to repair it just like you would any other epoxy board.  As I posted in your other thread, the chipping paint on the rails is real common with NSP and SouthPoint boards.  I’m pretty sure they use some sort of poly urethane paint, but appear to have had adhesion problems, thus the paint chips and peals like an egg shell.  I’ve used epoxy appliance paint (spray or brush applied) and it works great.

Are NSP's made up with similar materials and layup schedule  as Surftech and Boardworks?? I've been trying to figure out NSPs for awhile. Thanks

Canadiansurfer. For repair I would clean well with alcohol pick off any lose surface coat. Rough sand with 50 grit. Then use West Systems G/Flex epoxy. i would mix in some West 407 or410 fairing filler and a couple drops of white pigment.. Use enough fairing filler to make it about as thick as penut butter. Spread it on a little thick and when drie sand with 50 and 80 grit paper untill fair. If you have any low spots do another skim coat  with the epoxy fairing filler. Finish sand with 100 and 150 paper, then mask and paint with white epoxy applyance paint. Or use a template of a foot, butterfly , flour or something else and paint with contrasting color. I like to use happy feet and black paint. or a yellow smilely face. The G/flex is a relatively new product that was formulated for just this kind of rapairs.Beware though if you dont pigment it, it will turn brown in a few months.

It’s so easy you guys have it wrong!
Get diesel
Pour on board
Light on fire
Take picture and send to your nearest local shaper with an apology for having it in the first place.

I do ding repair at my shop and happily turn away all Chinese crap!
I used to get handshakes in Cali but in Canada I am a racist lol

@GTFD - As far as I know, they are similar in that they both use epoxy resins and EPS foam, but how the layups, etc. compare I have no idea.  The Southpoints are supposed to be a better layup and overall construction than the NSP and with the exception of the flaky paint issue seem to be pretty well made.

Just finished the job Thanks for all the good tips, I finally use epoxy glue sand it prime and paint now ......How much would you charge...........

B.T.W. there were 5 dings like that, only one with a crack

the dutch dokter ding would ask 5 * 15euro minus a bit for repairing that many.

google says 103 canadian dollars, so asking the guy 88 is charging 4 only, he is getting free repairs, tell him!

i once repaired a board that had STAPLES in it !! :
