If you’re on the stringer of an EPS core, do you suggest a dense foam liner or just a close tolerance hole?
I’m doing under glass install, so I’ll put a circle of cloth over before lam.
For sure but most guys spend a fortune to buy their carbon esoteric méga tech power magic fins and they want to use it ! Lol. Plus not so much choice for glass on in supplier here…
On stringer under glass Close tolérance hole.
You’re killin’ it. Futures boxes retail $6.50 — $8.00. So at the highest price $32 for a quad set. FCS Fusion boxes about $7 or $7.50 sometimes $8.00. Same same. The cheapest I ever see FCS plugs or even the Chinese knock-offs is $4.50 per plug. So you’re not saving anything. And the best install is the one spoken of that FCS recommends. Your cheapest option is to glass on. And ray is right. FCS plugs are outdated. Better alternatives. I recommend them to beginning builders because they can be installed easily with a minimum of tools. I sometimes use them for a single tab fin install.
People still use FCS plugs??? Did I wake up in a time warp this morning?
I’ve thought they are still the best option for twinzer canards. The C5 boxes often used are known to crack. I would just reinforce it with a circle of divinicell or core cell like speedneedle does. All you need is a holesaw to make those.
I realize that FCS plugs aren’t the best design. I think we all - including the original poster, who is quite experienced - know this. So maybe we could focus on the original question. If necessary, think about it like this: if you lived in a world where you only have access to FCS plugs, and weight is not a concern, how could you reinforce the install?
The way FCS recommends; thru to the deck.
