I am currently using rice paper and an inkjet printer to make my logo’s; however the logo seems to transparent when it’s been glassed, it does not pop off the board. Any ideas
What would you tell the screenprinter? What kind of ink, and would you still use rice paper? Thanks Rick
if you already have a logo designed in illustrator or similar software, the screenprinter will translate that design onto rice paper using opaque inks. this is the only way to go IMHO. makes your boards look even more “professional.” i can refer you to a guy in California who does amazing work. And also have a contact in Oz who do equally great work. where are you located? kirk
I just shape for myself, and friends (and friends I didn’t know I had… and neighbors…) so I think the inkjet is fine for me. But I am curious… what would a small, say 4" x 4", two to three color print go for?
I paid about $20 for about a dozen (this is a couple of years ago) 4" x 6" logos plus some extra flame laminates that the guy threw in.
wow, $20?!? and they were screenprinted? man, that’s a bro deal if i ever heard of one! ballpark for a minimum run on a two to three color lam is approx. $300 to $500. minimum runs are normally 30 - 40 sheets with three to four (depending on size of design) lams per sheet. bottom line, if you’re a backyard guy you’ll never run out of lams! kirk
Hey rook My decal is simple black and white 4" x 2" they print up 1/2 sheets for me and I get 12 decals or 6 boardsper sheet , I just picked some up the other day, 20 sheets - two colour job (black & white) for $140 au, depending on how hard your artwork is to get to a printable stage ie: whether or not they have to work on it to do the separations. You could be up for another $100 for artwork. If you know a friend that can do separations and email it all to them you should only have to pay for printing. I worked for these crew about 18 years ago and their still going strong and do some great work from designing to printing. WWW.rhemagraphics.com If you just want some art done with separations my brother Jamie does this for a living, he was the head creative artist at Billabong for 12 years before going over to Ripcurl for a couple of years and now has his own design company, if your interested I can give you his email addy to get a quote. KR
Hey KR, Rhema did my lam too. They ROCK. kirk
Thanks for the info… that’s kinda more the ballpark I was expecting. Thanks for the offer too… but I was always a graphics arts kid in school and I’m well versed in the Adobe platforms. Designing artwork is right up there with shaping, in my book. Way to go for your brother… it’s a competitive business to climb to the top of. Ripcurl and Billabong, what more could a graphic artist/surfer ask for.
yeah, i thought about moving up to and getting i doen the pro way. but my mom bought a new printer that works well. even prints color pretty well. i had fun yesterday printing out some funny clip art, to throw under unsuspected board hehehe… as for now costs to much for me, im sure i could afford it…but why? inkjet doesn’t bother me, so ill spend the moeny ona board for me!
