BETWEEN THE LINES, The True Story of Surfers and the Vietnam War, to screen in Beverly Hills.
August 5th, 2008, Encinitas, Ca. – The third and final veterans benefit screening of BETWEEN THE LINES will take place in Los Angeles on August 21, 2008 at 8 pm at the Beverly Hills Fine Arts Theater. Proceeds from the screening will benefit the Rick Thomas Veterans Counseling Center. An invitation only media reception will begin at 7.
Narrated by acclaimed writer/director John Milius (Apocalypse Now - Big Wednesday etc.), BETWEEN THE LINES examines the Vietnam War through the prism of the surfing sub-culture. This documentary film offers unique insight into the dramatic effect that the Vietnam War and draft had on young American men who rode waves.
On July 25, Huntington Beach was the location for the second veterans benefit screening of BETWEEN THE LINES. The screening raised funds for the Long Beach Veterans Hospital Prosthetics and Orthotics Lab and moved the filmmakers closer to their $10,000 goal. Dignitaries such as Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, artist John Van Hamersveld, and surf explorers Kevin Naughton & Craig Peterson took in the festivities.
“With Los Angeles being the entertainment capital of the world, we have high hopes that our $10K goal will be met in Beverly Hills, explained BETWEEN THE LINES producer, Ty Ponder. Either way, we have raised funds and raised awareness for veterans’ charities. That’s a good thing. We’ve met folks that have traveled from as far away as Hawaii and the east coast just to see and support the film, but more importantly to support veterans. We’re very pleased.”
