Bevelling Dings

Just wondering if some of you have any preference for a particular pad/disc and/or paper when it comes to bevelling dings.

Surprised no one has responded to this, so I’ll take a shot at it. Maybe them is all too interested in making new boards to be bothered with fixing the old. But my regular stick is nearly seven years old so I have a lot of sweat equity and patch effor in it.

I like a 60 grit sanding belt with a piece of 1x4 in it, so that the belt is tight on the stick. Very controllable, very cutting and unlike hand sanding, the cutting is very localized. You can put a lot of pressure where you need to cut. I round off the 4" end of the 1x, so that I have that convex edge to work with also.

That said, I have a light touch with the same 60 grit on a hard pad. If you have a variable speed grinder, so much the better, but the soft pad hasn’t got the “spot on” cutting action of the 1x4 and belt. The VSG is less tiring tho.

I use 80 grit on an orbital hand sander…
