Biarritz Trip

Bonjour amis! - I’m leaving Brooklyn at the end of September for a trip to the Biarritz area. Air France gave me a quote of $150 to ship a board bag each way from the US. Basically I would like to try and rent a quad fish and a thruster while I’m out there. Does anyone know of any shops or even any local shapers that I can contact to hook this up? Any help would be so appreciated. Last time I was in France it was a blast - I’m so pumped to get back -

Merci -

Hello,

September is the right season for that area.

Guilhem Rainfray (aka balsa on swaylocks) is a talented local shaper who lives nearby Biarritz. You should try to contact him, he’s the gun specialist for local big wave spot named guethary. Alexandre Lobstein (aka Lob on swaylocks) is one of the french fish specialists. His shop is 1h30 away from Biarritz but he probably could deliver a board to Biarritz. Jeffrey Swartwood (aka Jeffrey on swaylocks) is also nearby and is an american pro shaper now leaving in france. He’s specialized on longboards (balsa, compsand, PU …) and retro shapes (stingers, single fins).

All three of them are very talented and nice people. They speak english.

“They speak english.”

One of them writes better than he can speak…

It’s supposed to list all French shapers by areas. But there are a number of surf shops in Biarritz and Anglet where -maybe- you’ll find what you’re looking for, too.

As far as I am concerned, I only shape custom orders and thus haven’t any board in stock.

i went to biarritz last summer. it was great. we ended up renting boards from a little shop right on the beach.

Guys - This is really helpful. Thanks a bunch for pointing me in the right direction. I hope the season is starting to treat you well.
