Ok…need some help on a translucent glass job. The situation is the following, just finished the shape of my board and want to glass it with a light green translucent pigment, kind like Coke bottle tint. But i only have opaque pigment so today i mixed just 3 drops of the opaque green and glassed a piece of foam as a test. The thing looks good. I’m just wondering if there’s any downside, this souns like a real big cheat. Is it possible to do the translucent glass this way or will it bring any further problems on the board!!! Will the cutlaps be noticed as it would be done with actual translucent pigment?!?
Every single dimple or scratch mark, sand mark, sureform mark will show.
Using opaque over tint does cover a little better, but now we're showing your finish lam squeegee directions and depths of resin.
This CAN look good, but only if the blank is sanded to at least 150, taking care of all scratches and sand marks, and very careful cutlaps possibly covered with pinline work.
Are you sure you are not looking for the coke bottle green tint that comes as a result of using volan cloth? You may not need any tint if this is the green you are talking about… just sayin’.
